Netflix inks with Universal and Twentieth Century Fox: first TV streams, more films, and 28 day rental delay

Apr 9th 2010 1:25PM (Engadget)
@Killer Orca one of the reasons I originally paid for NetFlix was cutting out some of the movies I wanted to watch in theaters because theater prices were getting ridiculous, so the movies I missed out on in theaters I would watch on Blu...I tend to watch new releases, and love how they look in HD, some of the older catalog titles don't look as crisp, but these new films look great - i guess because of the digital transfers.

I am really looking forward to Avatar and experiencing it in 2D.

Netflix inks with Universal and Twentieth Century Fox: first TV streams, more films, and 28 day rental delay

Almost exactly a year ago if you used Blu-Ray you got an email from NetFlix stating that you would have your subscription fee increased. I always got new releases the day they were released shipped on Monday before the Tuesday street date and got it delivered in my mailbox the same Tuesday...as somebody who almost exclusively rents new releases this is not good news.

I'm not the only one who rents this way -

My issue is that not everybody streams - I am in an IFITL neighborhood and I am stuck on a 1.5mb DSL connection, HD streaming is not feasible for me, Blu-Ray is the way I watch movies and it works great with uncompressed audio and superior video quality. NetFlix should have an option for Blu-Ray only or streaming only and upcharge the people who are getting the benefits of this deal they are striking with the studios.

How does NBC justify tape delaying the Olympics? Pretty easily

Summer 2008 - NBC pushes Usain Bolt's 100m race to primetime. IT WAS NINE SECONDS. NBC couldn't replay a nine-second long event in primetime AS WELL as airing it Live?

I had to watch via a live internet stream...as a Jamaican living in the US it really made me mad that I couldn't watch it Live in HD.

Thank God ESPN has the rights for the World Cup and not NBC!

I am praying ESPN gets the rights...

Digital distribution is the real winner of Warner/Netflix deal

Jan 19th 2010 10:09PM (Engadget HD)
@JTD I just restarted BlockBuster Total Access and decreased my NetFlix from 3 at a time to 2 at a time...hoping WB doesn't strike the same deal with BlockBuster or else I will have to wait 30 days.

I am stuck in an IFITL neighborhood and cannot get anything higher than a 1.5mbps connection- so streaming HD is not an option for me. If NetFlix is really getting cheaper rates because of this deal why not pass it on to the consumer; especially since our rates increased recently for renting BD.

Poll: Will you buy a 3D HDTV?

Jan 17th 2010 5:56PM (Engadget HD)
I might buy an adapter for my Mitsubishi DLP set...it already has a "3D mode." But I will definitely be buying a 3D HD set- hopefully soon so I can experience the world cup in 3D.

you thought battery drain was bad before...get ready to charge your phone every hour when watching streaming HD 720p while on a 3G or LTE connection.

Editorial: A slimmer, cheaper, better PS3. Was that so hard?

Aug 19th 2009 6:46PM (Engadget)
Also XBL still does not allow user created modifications via its service. Games like Pro Evolution Soccer and Unreal Tournament can be edited in the PS3 version but not on XBL. It is really cool updating the kits of the uniforms and adding attributes and better facial scans or updated boots/colors of the players- the fan community is extremely active especially on sites like pesgaming.com where you can download user option files with all the updated summer transfers and new uniforms and apply them to your game so you don't actually have to do the editing yourself. It is unfortunate that XBL does not support this but it is great to see that it is at least offered in PSN and hopefully it is something that will be added to XBL in the future. And you have to admit that the currency level Microsoft points thing is just stupid and a better system is in order now converting points to cash is annoying and it is these little things that get really irritating. Again an editorial or a feature exposing the faults of the 360/XBL is in order.
