Microsoft announces record Q1 revenue, thanks 'Xbox 360 consoles and games'

Oct 28th 2010 9:19PM (Joystiq)
@ichibansony

XBL>PSN (don't know about PSN Plus because PSN SUCKS SO BAD.

I get playstation home for FREE! (sorry you better pay me to put that crap on my console)
IMHO Sliverlight Streaming of both Netflix and Zune content via 360 looks quite a bit better than PSN.

The $35 per year that I pay (I'm paid thru 2012 :p ) is well worth the fact that XBL Gold has dedicated bandwith. My guess is PSN+ does too because bandwith and servers aren't free and that's a good chunk of what you're paying for with XBL Gold and PSN+.

F1 boss Ecclestone says no high definition feed until 2012

Just keep in mind how hard it is to shoot premire class racing in HD. I mean if it were so easy, MotoGP wouldn't have been doing it since 2008.

Props to MotoGP for not only covering ALL of their classes in HD since 2008, but also offering streams at various levels of HD quality.

TiVo's $200m damages award against DISH is headed back to the appeals court, future

May 14th 2010 4:07PM (Engadget HD)
Wow, I thought this was over and done with. I wonder how long it will take the court to reach the same finding again? Too bad the facts will still show that Dish broke the law and ows TiVo money. I have to think that to date, Dish has probably spent as much in court as it would have just licencing the IP they're still infringing on.

In partial reply to Slappy, TiVoHD seems a bit slower than the DirectTV HD DVR we had, but it's about $1,200 a year cheaper. I'm still thinking about using a Windows 7 Media Center machine either to replace the TiVoHD or suplement it. PlayOn works okay, but not having to deal with plug-ins or lip sync issues would be nice too.

1 in 8 say they will cut back on cable bills -- but probably won't

Dropping DirecTV saved us $105 a month. Since SyFy's lineup BITES and Speed became the all NAPCAR & Hardly Movin' Noisy Cycle channel, there was no reason to stay...AT ALL.

$1,260 a year buys an awful lot of OTA HD, Netflix Streaming and XBox Live VOD.

I HOPE there are a couple more escrow builds before the release it to MFG. Everything I've read indicates that phones will be available in October. If they can get it out a bit earlier, I would be fine with that, so long as they make good on the promise to push updates at a reasonable rate.

The Dark Knight isn't ready to surrender its all-time Blu-ray sales crown yet

Apr 28th 2010 12:53AM (Engadget HD)
Amazon had Dark Knight BD for $9.95 earlier today. That probably doesn't hurt things at all.

I just hope the studios don't get the idea that the sales are being boosted by the Red Box / Netflix 30 day delay.

DirecTV raises its HD channels claim to 160, disses Dish for juking the numbers

@bobjfs

I dropped DirecTV for the constant price increases and genrally crappy content. As a result am VERY happy to download Dr. Who off Xbox Live in HD. $1,200 a year buys a LOT of downloads.

TiVo's $200m damages award in EchoStar case affirmed, EchoStar to appeal (again)

Mar 4th 2010 6:43PM (Engadget)
@(Unverified)

BUZZZITT! Wrong answer Unverified. Echostar had all the TiVo IP in house to see if they wanted to use it or not, copied everything and told TiVo they didn't want to use any of it. They started using it anyway and that's why things are where they are now.

It would be like GM getting all the IP from Tesla, not licensing anything and building cars that obviously used Tesla IP.

Echostar is the bad guy here. They got caught, found guilty and still don't want to pay up.

Microsoft has AT&T's back, sues TiVo for patent infringement

Jan 20th 2010 3:48PM (Engadget)
@jgp

Ah, don't you mean EchoStar raped TiVo, then TiVo sought recourse and won?

I wouldn't say TiVo is getting what they deserve as they're perfectly aware that this kind of thing can happen when aggressively defending one's IP.

Panasonic shipping first SDXC cards next month for ungodly amounts of cash

Jan 6th 2010 8:52PM (Engadget)
Yeah, prices for those have to drop before anyone can start talking about mass market. That said 'large capacity' hard drives, RAM, SSD, USB Flash drives all had insane prices when first released. Let the early adopters pay for R&D, I'll get mine a bit later.
