Sony granted access to GeoHot's PayPal records
Mar 17th 2011 10:37PM (Joystiq)Its actually easy to prove that it wasn't his intent, as the custom firmware he created for the PS3 does not allow backup loaders or piracy. It doesn't have the required hooks in it to make it happen.

Mar 17th 2011 10:26PM (Joystiq)Funny, I was under the impression that once I paid for the hardware, it was mine, to do with what I pleased. If that means smashing it with a sledgehammer, that's my business. If it means hacking the hell out of it and running my own code, that's equally my business, because the hardware is mine, not sony's.

Mar 17th 2011 10:15PM (Joystiq)FYI, Geohots custom firmware does not allow piracy, nor does it allow apps for piracy. The firmware does not have the hooks in it for backup launchers to work.

Mar 17th 2011 10:13PM (Joystiq)I didn't realize hacking a console was illegal. iPhone hacking has precedent of legality. What, exactly, is so different between the iOS platform hacking and PS3 platform hacking? Neither were open operating systems, both have application that you can pay for (and pirate once jailbroken), and both have plenty of uses beyond their original or official intent that jailbreaking enables.
So what, exactly, is the legal difference?

Mar 17th 2011 10:08PM (Joystiq)You do know that GeoHots custom firmware does not allow backup loaders or piracy right?
Oh wait, you're just another one of those douche's that assumes everybody who hacks anything against the will of a giant international megacorp must be doing it for the piracy.

Dec 30th 2010 3:54PM (Joystiq)Because all free roaming 3D castlevania games have been garbage. This definitely feels like the old Castlevania 3 in its area presentation and atmosphere.
Best of the Rest: Richard's picks of 2010
Dec 30th 2010 3:52PM (Joystiq)FYI, you don't have to beat all the enemies in every room to proceed. I'm only halfway through CH 2 and I've skipped several rooms full of enemies because I just didn't want to fight them.
There have also been plenty of pitfalls throughout so far. If you're looking for pitfalls of instant death and 3x lives for the whole game, those times have long ago left us.
In the modern gaming era, this has been easily the best 3D Castlevania game ever made. The N64 games were good efforts, but limited by the hardware and control. The PS2 games were garbage.
Honestly, I think LOS is the best you're going to get in a 3D Castlevania. The only things I would have changed so far is being able to control camera angles. Voice acting has been excellent (though I'm getting quite tired of Patrick Stewart's voice as a narrator. Everytime I hear it, all I can think of is "Shut tight the jaws of Oblivion!"). The story so far has been good. Level design is nice. Creature design has been nice. Atmosphere is excellent. It feels like a nice blend of the old NES/SNES era Castlevanias with a fresh coat of paint and innovation to bring it into the modern era.
