Unless one of those "new and exciting features" is the ability to go back in time and release it at the same time as they did on every other platform, i couldn't care less.
to #9 (Christian), it is a bad idea to give things for free, especially these games. Once you give something away for free it is very difficult to reverse that and ever charge anything in the future, and you set a precedent for the future.
A token payment of say, $2 as DG has mentioned, would be cheap enough for people not to care yet would protect Nintendo to allow for those games to be sold again in the future for a different price/model.
I would favour a service that provided limited-time play for free, say, 20 mins, then require a purchase. I've never really got into subscriptions, but that's probably because Australia has none worthwhile.
Here in Australia the xbox360 sell for $650 for the premium pack. They don't sell the minimal pack.
$650 is FAR TOO EXPENSIVE for a console IMHO, as a comparison, the xbox 1 is around $250 with 2 games, the gamecube a bargain at $99 and the PS2 around $250.
Sort of explains why the xbox360 is sitting on shelves here, unlike Northern America.
Now, if the xbox360 is US$399 and AU$650, then following the same calculation the PS3 will be between $814 and $977!
I couldn't give a rat's ass if the waves are generated using some realistic physics algorithm, and i couldn't care less if the clouds are being procedurally (sp?) generated and rendered using some fancy-pants software.
Why?
Because they both look like any other cloud or sea i've seen over the last few years!
I have an xbox that is chipped. Originally I chipped it to play copied games, but in the end, I ended up using the Xbox Media Center software far more than a copied game - I upgraded the hard drive to a 200 Giger and my whole house now uses the xbox as 'media storage', as well as a great player.
I was looking to buy a 360 (it has only been released a week or so ago here in Australia) but as far as I can tell the movie part of it will not stream divx or xvid encoded video. As soon as they hack the 360 and enable it to run a new version of the Xbox Media Center software I'll get one.
Doing so will surely enable piracy, and i'm honest and open enough to say that i'll download game ROMs for it. I'm also going to say that I download ROMs for games on a trial basis, or for an advanced copy. Things take a long time to reach our shores sometimes, and are also banned in some circumstances (GTA, Mark Echo, etc). If a game rocks, and I've played it for a few hours and think it's great, I'll buy it. Most of the stuff I download I play for 15 mins, decide to not waste me time on it and end up playing online games on my PC again.
It should also be noted that legal backups of games are a GOOD IDEA and should be easier to do. I backup all of my DVD's and i'm glad - the amount of damage those things take when handled by kids is insane.
It seems that Nintendo really needs to educate people that they are building new hardware for new software, not different hardware for the same old software.
It's blatantly obvious to me, yet some people still insist on forcing it into something it was not designed for.
As Jago said, traditional button fighting games can be controlled using the shell, and never-before-seen games can take advantage of the remote.
It's awesome, and i'm hanging out for it (and a 360 price drop)!

I hate Nazi's as much as the next guy but seriously, as NT said above, it's a matter of free speech.
What if the 'reaction of a casual gamer picking up the DS for the first time' is 'cool - another nazi! glad i'm not the only one!'
Just a matter of perspective.
