NBC Universal in Second Life
Nov 30th 2006 6:58AM (Second Life Insider)I had a blast skating on the ice rink, busting impressive 360-flip jumps. Too bad the Christmas trees weren't for sale, I would have bought one for my land.
Do We Need Insurance?
Nov 29th 2006 7:36AM (Second Life Insider)I think $1-2 per 1000 items insured is very fair. It would give the Lindens the money to build the resources to provide the insurance service as an optional safeguard for those who want it, and while it might not provide much profit-wise to them, it'll go a long way on the positive PR side.
If you want to make the system completely automatic, just work out a system in a future build to give every item/prim created a unique code (wait, is that already in the game?) and have those codes reflected in the transaction history. If an item goes missing, the insured user only needs to go back to the transaction history, where all of the item codes are stored, and send that code to his/her insurance "agent", who will restore the item, provided the item wasn't given away, sold or deleted as listed in the history.
Sounds easy enough to me. I say, bring on Linden Mutual!!! Maybe LL can even get a real-world insurance company to brand it, underwriting the startup costs. I can just see it now....State Farm agents' offices all over SL :-)
