Cracks 'appearing' in new iPhone 3Gs

Jul 30th 2008 7:55PM (TUAW.com)
Surely their best option from a PR and customer satisfaction point of view is just to be honest for once and publicly confess (in all retailers that stock the product, not just on a hidden page on their site and contact those already with an iPhone) that they made a mistake; offer those affected with a hassle free like for like exchange of the affected product and let people go about their business.

Until they do that just taking your iPhone back every three weeks and having to explaining the situation each time in the hope that you'll finally get a new defect free revision just isn't going to work.

Apple sues Psystar for license violations, copyright infringement

To use your banana example:

What is one shop made a special banana that had a special extra metal skin that could only be eaten by someone who wore a special (and propriety) mouth guard. (i know it sounds stupid but bare with me...)

Now is it illegal for a second shop to buy these bananas direct from the first store but on the behalf of the end user (eater) remove the special skin so that the banana could be eaten without the special mouth guards but with generic ones (that the store happens to sell.....)?

I think that's a fairer analogy

Well the main reason that Apple charge for updates is not because they have to (simply by changing the way they account for the iPod's sales so that it was accounted for over a longer period and not on day of transaction would let them get round any legislation) but because they can.

MS on the other hand have a product in a very competitive market (and don't have the fanboy mass that apple has) so release these updates for free to try and gain market share and to appease current customers unlike Apple who like to spit on their oldest fans. If i sound bitter about be asked to pay for the wireless n and 2.0 firmware its because i am...

iPod touch 2.0 update now for sale, for real

Jul 12th 2008 7:45PM (TUAW.com)
I knew some people liked apple products but I think you might be a bit to obsessed. The problem with the way apple are going (charging for minor updates), will leave a very bad taste in many people's mouths and will give peopleva very bad impression of the company. If any other company did this kind of charging people would be up in arms and rightly so.

Also I don't get that Apple are charging for an update that enables the use of a shop that makes them money, how nuts is that? I would say what else annoys alot of people is the fact that the touch update is basically a stripped down version of the iPhone firmware, which now no longer gives apple monthly subscriptions which shoots a hole in their existing argument

that happened because safari auto extracts any archive you download with it.

The simple fix is to download the directlink with another browser such as camino or if you have stuffit expander to add a .zip extension to the file then add in the .ipsw extension and then remove the .zip and you should get the working ipsw (the folder changes to a fancy lil icon of a lego with an ipod logo on it).

You can archive the folder using the inbuilt archiver but i found that (in Leopard) that the install would fail.

Europe gets DualShock 3 July 2, UK on July 4

Wales has been legally part of England since 1542 (like a giant County....) and was unofficially part of England since the 1200's technically when England declares/d war on Country (or them on England) so did/does Wales... So -1 for you.

As for what makes a Country a Country and not a state/nation is a matter of debate and personal opinion.

Back to the controller, when can we expect to see the DualShock as part of a bundle?

"Unlimited" iPhone data plans on T-Mobile, O2 and Orange not so unlimited

Oct 29th 2007 12:30PM (Engadget)
I wouldn't say us Euorpeans get screwed on phone plans as unlike in america we don't have to pay to recieve calls. We also get loads of free minutes and texts and data on most plans. And i must say that compared to most (if not all) deals the O2 iPhone is a really bad. But it's exclusive to O2 and it's an Apple product so what do you expect?
