Feb 16th 2006 5:28PM (Engadget)P.S. I wonder if the reason Sony won't make UMD-R/RW discs is the fear that it will slow sales of their expensive Memory Stick Duo cards. Imagine paying a few cents for a 1.8 gb UMD-RW instead of the $150 it costs for a 2 gb memory stick. Us PSP owners can only dream...
Japanese sales charts: DS just scraping by
Feb 9th 2006 6:12PM (Joystiq Nintendo)One thing I notice hardcore Nintendo fans (notice how I avoid the "fanboy" label) doing is complaining about console ports/rehashes on the PSP. I think what many of you are overlooking is the fact that the PSP is meant to bring a console experience to the handheld market. While these systems compete for market share, they go about handheld gaming in completely different ways.
I am VERY worried that what we've seen with the PSP and DS is a preview of what we will see on the next gen consoles. With its rumored media center functionality, as well as ability to play Blu-Ray discs, the PS3 may suffer the same fate of the PSP in that it tries to do to much at once. Sony needs to realize that gaming is what made their Playstation division into the powerhouse it is, and without a great gaming experience on the PSP and PS3 they are dooming themselves. Hopefully their focus will improve and we will continue to see quality games on both Sony and Nintendo systems far into the future.
