Wow, Kevin Tancharoen, huh? Definitely did not see that one coming-- this is the guy who directed both Fame (the 2009 remake) and, haha, that one TV series where they were trying to find the next Pussycat Doll.

So now he's doing Mortal Kombat. Well, it's gonna be unique, that's for sure.

For what it's worth, Rock, I completely agree that I generally read game reviews "for insight into the experience and design" (or I would like to), but I also understand that game magazines (and blogs, for that matter) don't necessarily review games in this manner, probably because game magazines (and blogs) like making money.

As far as reviews go, Mitchell's did just what I'd expect a blog's review to do, which is give a rather general idea of what the game is like, what it shares with other games in its ilk/series, what kind of art direction it has,&c &c. Since this isn't by Tim Rogers or a similar member of the "experience and design" elite, I'm satisfied.
