House of the Dead 3 on PSN next week, demo out now for PS Plus

Feb 8th 2012 11:00AM (Joystiq)
@silvaring

Overkill is fantastic, but you'd have to be crazy to ever turn off the cursor in that game unless you don't care at all about the challenges. The scoring system punishes you heavily for missing even a single shot.

Looking forward to this; already have HOTD 2 & 3 Returns on the Wii, but using the Sharpshooter is perfectly suited for 3's shotguns (right down to the pump-action reload) and I'm sure the graphics will look much sharper on this version. I should check out the demo first, but at $7 it seems like a no-brainer for someone who actually eagerly bought and enjoyed Time Crisis: Razing Storm despite its initial control problems.

NFL Blitz review: All-star team

The late hits thing is definitely a bummer, but it's hard to hold it too much against the game itself. It's not EA's fault that Roger Goodell is a staggering douche.

Today's Steam holiday sale discounts Dead Space 2, Tomb Raider, more

@(Unverified)

Yeah, I thought it was really odd for Joystiq to post a story saying that Dungeon Defenders was on sale last week. Even though it technically was, they should know damn well that you don't jump on a regular sale price during a Steam sale until all of the Daily Deals have been unveiled.

Three pros score love on Grand Slam Tennis 2 cover

Dec 27th 2011 3:34PM (Joystiq)
I don't know how this is the first I'm hearing of this game. I came very close to buying the original on Wii just because the concept of motion controlling a tennis racket was highly appealing. After playing so much TW12 with the Move and enjoying it, I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for this one. If they don't completely screw up the controls I'll probably buy it day one.

Dungeon Defenders for Steam gets new holiday skins and maps, on sale

Dec 23rd 2011 10:19AM (Joystiq)
Unless Joystiq has some solid info that this game won't be a daily deal over the next few days, it's kind of odd to recommend buying it at the current sale price. Pretty much everything's "on sale" right now, but it would be silly to buy non-Daily Deals until the last day when you know it won't get any cheaper.

'12 Days of Xbox' savings continue with Fallout DLC today

Dec 22nd 2011 4:57PM (Joystiq)
Stuff like this puts what passes as sales on consoles in stark perspective. Spending the last few days poring through various PC gaming sales, sales like this just don't register as any kind of deals at all.

Last month I got Fallout: New Vegas AND all of its DLC for under $15 on Steam.

I'm not saying this to rip on consoles, as I still do most of my gaming on them, but it really is amazing how much better deals you can get on the PC once you make the initial investment of a decent rig.

SSX takes path less traveled, delayed two weeks

Dec 21st 2011 5:02PM (Joystiq)
No problem; I'm definitely planning on getting this one on release but I've got more than enough to tide me over in the meantime. If they put the extra time to good use then everyone will be happier.

Amazon PC download sale: Cheap Sonic Generations, Tropico 4, Dungeon Defenders, more

Dec 21st 2011 4:58PM (Joystiq)
Tropico 4 for $5 is really tempting, but I haven't even played Tropico 3 yet and just got that for $5 on Steam, so I think I can wait for 4 to inevitably drop to around $5 on Steam down the road sometime. I don't at all like having my games fragmented across download services if I can avoid it. I even re-bought Amnesia for $5 despite already owning it on Amazon just to have it on Steam.

Humble Indie Bundle adds five more games (and their soundtracks)

Dec 20th 2011 6:24PM (Joystiq)
Just played VVVVVV for the first (and second, and third, and fourth) time last week. What a refreshingly charming game (at least once I rigged gamepad support up to it.) I have a feeling I'm going to be going after my fifth, sixth, and seventh playthroughs before I get to any of the other titles in this package.

Witcher 2, Double Fine games, more in Steam Holiday Sale today

Dec 20th 2011 6:21PM (Joystiq)
I was going to pass on Costume Quest, but if I get Psychonauts with it for $2 extra, that's well worth it. Or I could just get Psychonauts for $2.50 by itself. Now that I think of it, I already got Costume Quest on PS3 for free as a PSN+ deal.

And what the hell was I thinking buying the Witcher 1 at full price ($10) two months ago? Argh...

I also love that DNF for $5 doesn't even warrant a mention in the story. I hope that was intentional...
