PSA: Black Ops First Strike DLC must match language on disc

Feb 1st 2011 9:20PM (Joystiq)
This should be easy to figure out guys, seriously.

In a game that has thousands of line of dialogue, putting multiple languages takes up huge amounts of disc space. Since 360 uses dual-layer dvd's, this is simply impossible to do, unless you want the entire disc to be filled with languages.

Same goes for this DLC. The pack is already 500+mb. Add in multiple languages, and you're looking at a pack that is a quite a bit larger. Why spend more on bandwidth for a feature that simple doesn't matter for most people (who's going to play it in more than one language) when you can separate it out and have presumably smart people download the correct, and smaller, dlc?

Beyond Black Mesa short film is live and incredible

I applaud the effort obviously put into this film, but it always hurts to see so much time and talent put into visuals and direction, and then have the final film released with absolute crap sound design.
No Foley, barely anything beyond a few "big" sound effects, little to no ambience... Sure, they peppered in Half-Life sound effects throughout, but none of it sounds like it fits the space. It, to me, just ruins what would otherwise be quite a good short film.

'Persons Unknown' - 'Seven Sacrifices' Recap

I'm pretty sure the guy in the eye patch was the old "Hotel Manager" who apparently survived Joe's attack, much like Ulrich did.
That would explain why he's so pleased, since shutting it down means killing Joe.

A blanket. That way, you just turn off the console after a late-night gaming session and fall right asleep.

Review: Where the Wild Things Are

Oct 16th 2009 4:43PM (Cinematical)
Just wanted to add my two cents and see if anyone had the same reaction I did.

Saw this last night, thought the movie itself was good, not great, the best part being Max, the "men-in-suit" wild things, and some of the visuals. However, what ultimately knocked this movie down for me was the absolutely atrocious music by Karen O. Every single time one of her songs came on (which happened far too frequently), I inwardly groaned. Her yips, squeals, yells, etc, all served to take me out of the movie, not to mention the fact that the music was poorly placed and, in the case of the dirt clod fight, had Karen seemingly trying to be in on the action, all to the detriment of the scene.

The Karen O-less music cues worked FAR better, and the movie itself would have been so much more enjoyable had they not hired her on.

Anyone else have the same experience?

Does the computerized music in Glee bug you?

Sep 17th 2009 7:20PM (AOL TV)
I never really got the debate against pre-recorded music in tv and film. The fact of the matter is, if you want something to sound good, ESPECIALLY when people are dancing and moving, pre-recorded music and vocals is the only way to go.
With the amount of shots, the variety of equipment and people on set for any given shot, and the rooms and locations these musical sections are shot in, clean sound is an impossiblity. If it's not canned and lip-sync'd, it's going to sound like crap, period.

Does the computerized music in Glee bug you?

Just a quick note: czaravm was not referring to the canned music in the piece, but the use of autotune on Amber's voice.
While the program was not overused to the extent that the voice was "T-Pain-ed," there was still some blatant autotuning that overshadowed what was otherwise some excellent singing.
Do not confuse Autotune with music; autotune, and other programs like melodyne, serve to fix pitch and note issues with singing typically. Many artists use it in a way that is unobtrusive and well-hidden; artists like t-pain and Kanye go in the opposite direction and use the program itself as a "flavor" for the voice, giving us that distinctive sound we call call "autotune." Amber herself gave some great singing, but the producers apparently felt the need to autotune sections of her vocals, and for me, it definitely took away from the performance as a whole.

Glee: Acafellas

Actually Shawn, autotune, when overused, sounds like t-pain. Many singers these days use autotune or melodyne to fix off-notes here and there. While the entirety of this song for Glee does not use autotune the way t-pain or kanye have in their albums, there is some obvious use of the program to help her pitch, and you can hear it quite easily if you give it a shot.
She is definitely singing, but to say they are not using autotune on her voice is ignorant of what the program actually does.
