Opinion: Why I can't go beyond the first 5 mins of Call of Duty: World At War

Nov 10th 2008 7:13PM (Joystiq)
here's the thing with germans: no one kills germans. we kill nazis. seriously. they make such a huge effort to turn it into a political thing that we don't think for a second about it.

japanese on the other hand, are we killing japanese? are we killing imperial soldiers? who are we killing? there's no political affiliation they can build up to protect the japanese like we protect the germans.

besides, this whole they committed war crimes thing is completely bunk. who even talks about that anymore at an international level? even korea and china are mostly over it. the only thing that they get their panties in a bunch about anymore is north korea and japanese text books.

we don't blame the germans anymore do we? no. that's because the government that committed those atrocities is now gone. so why do we continue to blame the japanese when the government that caused them to commit their atrocities are too no longer in power?

americans are simply too willing to make people who aren't white 'evil'. the german's aren't evil because the nazis did it. the russians aren't evil because the communists did it. the japanese and more recently, the muslims, are evil though. why the inconsistency?

an additional comment:

considering all the terrible garbage i am forced to listen to coming out of the mouths of fellow players on psn or xbox360 i can only imagine being extremely offended playing w@w.

it was bad enough having to listen to people talking about killing 'a-rabs' and plenty of other things i'm sure i cannot say on joystiq. but it will really, really, really hit home when people start spouting racist bigoted stuff about asians. racists generally don't bother to research what words stereotype what cultures.

the biggest thing that makes me hesitant about this game is entirely race.

i'm korean, a nation of people that was extremely hurt by the actions of the japanese before and during ww2 and yet i have no ill will to them. it was not the will of the people, not seriously, that lead them to their actions but the desires of an elite few.

what people of 'white' backgrounds fail to recognize, however, is that generally speaking 'white' people have a tendency to ignore political affiliations and blame an ethnicity as a whole. look at our treatment of peoples from the middle east and outlying areas!

i almost expect dozens of taunting 'remember pearl harbor' shouts on pearl harbor now. does anyone else find it ironic that a korean is being taunted about what the japanese did on pearl harbor? oh yeah, i forgot, we all look the same.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 gameplay video looks familiar

the only thing that would make RS6 better, would be a faster implementation of the aiming.

before i ever played cod4 i was perfectly happy with pressing down a stick to get my sights up, but even then i never used the red dot or iron sights because they were basically useless in the scheme of things.

in cod4 though, your sights make all the difference and the easy left trigger operation was great. of course, this is the issue - left trigger on rs6 is the awesome cover mechanic, so how do you get both?

Rumor: Guitar issues with Xbox 360 Guitar Hero II

Apr 4th 2007 1:27AM (Joystiq)
Tony,

Beans is saying he doesn't want to tilt back the controller. Me and most of my friends also play by hitting select to trigger Star-Power.

Personally tilting back the guitar screws me up. :/

My whammy bar sucks -- completely flaccid. I have to lift it up away from the guitar and really 'whammy' it to get any kind of reaction and even then I only get maybe 60% of the additional Star Power I should have.

After a few hours of missing the immediate note following something I needed to whammy-bar I completely gave up on it and finished Hard mode without whammying at all. :(

Breakfast Topic: What's your archnemesis class?

In AV I go out of my way to Fairy Fire rogues -- just to prevent them from stealthing.

Breakfast Topic: What's your archnemesis class?

Jan 24th 2007 12:25PM (WoW)
Archnemesis? Probably everyone. I can't say that druids have the upper hand against any other class. Usually all I can do is Bear-up and hunker down for a long fight.

As far as other classes I dislike, ummmmmm, that would be all of them. Actually, I don't hate any one class, I just hate everyone who plays WoW.

Every level between 1 and 60 was torture as a Druid (back when Hurricane and Innervate were 31 point talents). Even when I could get groups (nearly never) I would be the first one to get kicked from the group whenever a member of a 'proper' class would show up.

I had to group with the worst of WoW. I healed my way to 60 with Fury Warriors, Shadow Priests, Ninja Rogues, Hunters (there are no good hunters), DPS Paladins, and 'Aggro-what?' Mages and Warlocks.

Lets just say that I've had to buy shields and 1handers for one too many Warriors.

Retail sucks, customer demands Mario on the 360

A guy brought back a Wii he got at our EB and wanted to sell it back to us.

Apparently he was disappointed at the lack of games. When we asked him what games he had, he said he only had what came with the system. We tried to explain to him that you have to buy the games separate from the system but he was firmly set on getting his $150 for a three day old Wii.

Olympus E-400 DSLR announced and previewed

Sep 24th 2006 9:51PM (Engadget)
If you've ever done any photography with a manual film SLR, you would know (and possible miss) how nice it was to have a small but capable camera. Cameras like the Olympus OM-1, Nikon F3, and Canon AE-1 are fantastic to shoot with and are all at least a 1/3 smaller than my D200.

If the E-400's image quality is as high as the D200 I would seriously consider switching and if Olympus ever offered a model as small as the E-400 with a front command dial and metal body construction then I would be an instant Olympus convert.
