Translating 'A Game of Thrones' with George R.R. Martin

Apr 3rd 2012 10:03PM (Joystiq)
@User Formerly Known as Dave I think they will start mixing and matching events from different books. They're obviously not going to do Season 4 without Tyrion, Snow, Daenerys etc. so they will have to mix it up.

I just read a spoiler-ish thing on Amazon about a specific event that we know is coming but DOESN'T happen in Dance With Dragons, and I cannot BELIEVE that it doesn't.

Translating 'A Game of Thrones' with George R.R. Martin

I loved the books until I recently started on book 5. After a few hundred pages I am bored out of my mind and have made a tentative decision to quit the book series and stick with the show. I have no problem with a plot moving slowly, but it still needs to be compelling. The book isn't.

The importance of playtesting: What Portal 2 could have been

Mar 9th 2012 11:58AM (Joystiq)
@FuzzyPierce Why does the "originally intended experience" matter, at all? At what stage was the "originally intended experience" official? Is it as soon as an author/developer/filmmaker writes the first word of the book/code/script? Or was it when they woke up from a nightmare and had the inspiration for the framework of a story (all changes after that point being "mind-blowing, in a bad way"), months before they began creating it? Are there allowed to be deleted scenes/text?

It may further disturb you to know that some writers don't even start with a plan - they have the seed of an idea and some characters and they just write, letting the story take them where it will.

Zynga considering online gambling; puts $1 billion on Red 14

@baby sea tuna I get it, because gambling and pornography are both evil, terrible things. Right?

We want to play Peter Molydeux's 'CasCore' prototype

This is so brilliant...the slowness of the bowling ball, the overly epic music contrasting with the pretty mundane stuff we're being shown, the children's dream/hammer idea, the character's celebrations, the "puzzles" mocking the types of puzzles we've all seen a thousand times in other games.

Grandpa Aaron loves Bioshock, can't wait to see you for Thanksgiving

@Puertoricarious I don't see a grandpa using the term "beat" in this context, repeatedly. Also how does one buy Braid and SotN as gifts for somebody in this day and age? He bought them as "gifts" over PSN?

@Dawg605 The next Vice City could be amazing if they make it more like San Andreas with a whole state. The Everglades, the Keys, Disney World...

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception review: Precious moments

@Basevi One reviewer at IGN giving God Hand a 3 does not mean that other editors (or even the original one after time changes his perspective) can't consider it a great game years later. It would be like getting on the New Yorker's case if Pauline Kael criticized a movie in 1991 that a different writer called a classic last week.

NBA 2K12 'Legends Showcase' DLC out this holiday

@2Slick Yea we really need a '90s Knicks-Pacers game in there. My guess is that they're either waiting for something special with Miller in the future (cover?), or they couldn't come to an arrangement. '90s Knicks-Heat for me would be incredibly intense, but there's not too many others who would care. :-(

Kingdom Hearts 3D to feature all new Disney worlds, Nomura says

Nov 18th 2010 11:17PM (Joystiq)
I looked into it...the correct worlds to use are Dumbo, a Latin America world from Saludos Amigos/Three Cabelleros, The Great Mouse Detective, a Muppet world (this is mandatory), maybe a random one based on a theme park ride or rides, and then take your pick from Pixar.
