Revolution patent reveals ports

Feb 15th 2006 9:45PM (Joystiq)
That one port on the back of the system to the very left reminds me of the old NES controller ports.

Bono to buy Take-Two? continued...

I don't really have anything important to add except bono is a douche. Thank you. That is all.

Hardcore gamers plum tuckered out? Or just waiting?

Feb 7th 2006 11:11PM (Joystiq)
I think what we are going to (hopefully) see is a paradigm shift in the game industry. Developers are going to realize that putting out two games that are essentially the same game with character changes and then releasing sequals to them will not fill the appetite of gamers. I didn't read the entire article just the one here on joystiq but it seems the author has hit the nail on the head. The same thing has happened in the movie industry. The film companies kept putting out remake after bad remake and they wondered why the summer movie season did so poorly. The video game industry needs to get back to its roots. Quit sticking with the status quo. Get some programmers who won't put a polygonal character in a wife beater and have him steal cars. Those companies are probably scratching their heads wondering why animal crossing, mario kart and guitar hero is doing so well. The games are simple, fun, and somewhat original. Its like when that katamari game came along and it seemed like the companies couldn't quite understand why it did so well. Simple, fun, pick up and go gameplay. With its absurd, quirky graphics.

Personally I think games have strayed from cartoony abstract graphics. I picked up yoshi's island for the gba and its one of the most fun games I have played in awhile. I think that the genre of games that presents itself in the "real world" has been exhausted. I like GTA san andreas. It allows you to do things you wouldn't normally do in real life, but there are so many other games out there like that, that now there is this hole in the market for abstract quirky cartoon graphically based games that are simple and fun i.e. Mario, sonic and the like. But don't quote me on that.

POLL: Are you going to buy a DS Lite?

Feb 7th 2006 4:55PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
although the redesign is nice, its not enough for me to warrant going out and purchasing a whole new unit and go through the hassle of ebaying my current one. I was one of the lucky ones to get in on the $99 DS at target around thanksgiving and since Im cheap and the DS does what I want it to do perfectly, I'm going to stick with my old one.

Inspired by Katamari, Namco is developing simpler games

Jan 17th 2006 5:35PM (Joystiq)
These companies act like the concept of really fun simple games is a new revolutionary (no pun intended) idea. They kept concentrating on the newest flashiest graphics and how many polygons that can fill every square inch of your TV screen that they forgot about the idea of ease of playability. What do they think catapulted the NES into popularity? Fun simple games that are enjoyed by all people. Look at Super Mario Brothers. That game is 20 years old and has poor graphics by todays standards but remains one of the most fun and popular games. Simple gameplay mechanics that anybody can pick up.

True Swing Golf tees off for the DS

Jan 17th 2006 1:55PM (Joystiq)
Well, I've only been in maybe a dozen different bars and easily 10 of them had golden tee and not all of the players were completely smashed out of their heads, but a good majority were.

Xbox modders face 17 years in prison

Jan 15th 2006 12:53AM (Joystiq)
17 years?!?!?!?! WTF...Didn't some judge in Vermont give a guy only 60 days in jail for molesting a 6 year old girl for four years? Thats some F***ed up justice right there.

But those guys do deserve a punishment. Selling mod chips/modded xboxes (which I am unsure of the legality) is one thing, but loading the HD's up with games and selling them....thats just plain stupid.

Parent prefers kid dabbling in coke over playing video games

Jan 11th 2006 9:35PM (Joystiq)
Cocaine is a helluva drug

I like the part where she states at least with pills and coke you're out doing something. Even if this is satire its done in poor taste.
That mother is going to eat her words when her kid Overdoses and winds up a vegetable in some nursing home.....the sweet irony of it all =D

Do you play high?

Jan 5th 2006 8:12AM (Joystiq)
I have not played high, but I've played TFC and GTA3 with friends after doing several shots of whiskey and for the life of me, I couldn't concentrate on the games. I still don't see how people can play all messed up.
