I love the fact that installs are completely optional on 360. I hope MS doesn't ever do away with that.
What I don't understand is why they didn't also add the ability for optional installs of portions of games... doesn't seem like this would be difficult at all... if the user has no HD then just don't allow it.
Then they would have the best of both worlds.
But I have to say, if I need to pick one method or the other, I'll take the MS route. Install any game if you want. There are very few titles that are on multiple discs, so this situation is pretty rare.
One question: aren't the mandatory installs on PS3 due to the Blu-ray drive having slower access times? This makes sense to me, due to the much higher data density on the disc... I thought this was considered fact, but it may have been debunked at some point? Whereas MS cranks up the speed on their DVD drives (which is why they sound like a buzzsaw and scratch the hell out of discs if bumped) to partially avoid the issue?
Not anti-PS3, just have a preference in this case for how MS handles this.
I prefer passive as well... I just wish they could get around the resolution issue. I think eventually we will see higher res displays that can display 1080p in 3D. But not yet.
But I agree that the active glasses would be a major pain.
The big difference between HD and 3D is that 3D actually inconveniences the user by requiring them to put on glasses. There's a big difference between someone being slightly annoyed that they can see makeup for a short period before soap operas adjust to HD's transparency, and the user actually having to get out and wear 3D glasses during viewing.
I'm actually a fan of 3D, even with glasses, but I definitely agree that it is only useful at this point with certain types of content.
So have they said whether this game will have a single player mode? I don't know... I don't really play online, but might be interested if it has a campaign that works well.
I would've much preferred a simple RE6 follow-up. I loved RE5.
Capcom is disappointing me lately. They used to be my favorite company. But now everything is being reinvented (DMC) or changed up. And their new policy of farming out their top titles to American devs is just not paying off at all imo... the games are just different, and not in a good way.
Bionic Commando and Dark Void were kind of lame. Lost Planet 2 was a mess. DMC is not at all the game I wanted. This one is a squad game, right? Don't really want that either. Ugh.
People are so impatient... these are complex technologies and there are bound to be issues from time to time.
They are clearly working hard on this issue and have already issued a patch to help... no doubt it will be reoslved within a couple days.
A technical glitch does not make it a crap game, or a crap developer for that matter. WAW was excellent, and Black Ops is excellent. People just like to whine.

Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica X HD assets slap some new on the old
Jul 27th 2011 5:37PM (Joystiq)I don't think it is... that is the only article that has mentioned it, and Capcom's blog post seems pretty specific it is ONLY on Live and PSN.
