Wii Warm Up: Let's talk Rock Band

Feb 3rd 2008 1:26PM (Joystiq Nintendo)
The game may not be that far into development. They might not have been sure they were going to do it. The Wii offers a lot of obstacles to overcome. There is no guarantee that they can make it as good as other consoles.

Downloadable content, online multiplayer (with or without friend codes), multiple instruments, compatibility with GH3 guitar. These are all decisions they have to make.

If they are going to make it as gimped as the PS2 version, they shouldn't even bother.

December NPD: No wonder you're broke this month

Jan 17th 2008 8:36PM (Joystiq)
A high priced game with limited availability? Even if it sold out, it wouldn't come close to the top 10.

By last count (after November's NPD numbers) Rock Band sold about 360,000 units across all three platforms. That's a good number for a $170 game.

Master Chief would have had supporting role in Halo movie

Jan 16th 2008 7:04PM (Joystiq)
So what they're saying is making a generic action movie is easier than making a good video game adaptation. If you aren't going to even try to stay true to the source material, then why bother?

Master Chief is the most recognizable element of the series. I'm sure there are plenty of people that simple refer to him as Halo, the way the uninitiated refer to Samus as Metroid and Link as Zelda.

I can understand changing Silent Hill or Resident Evil to make it more appealing to the masses, but Halo has enough mainstream support that people will appreciate it without dumbing it down.

Rogue Squadron developer, Factor 5 working on Wii

Jan 14th 2008 10:06PM (Joystiq)
So by making a game for the system, are they somehow changing the tech specs of the console? It still isn't the technologically superior console. And I can't speak for them, but I haven't read anything that said they changed their mind.

However, they have criticized developers for not even getting Wii games look as good as Gamecube games. I hope they are one of the first developers to do so. If they don't, well, then they'd be open to more criticism.

Sadness: a chronology of disappointment

That and there was an actual developer working on Duke Nukem. Nibris always sounded to me like a small group of guys that wanted to make games, but had no idea how. But that didn't stop them from making announcements.

Fix (or prevent) a broken Rock Band drum pedal

Dec 26th 2007 10:27PM (Joystiq)
Anyone have a fix for the Red drum. If you hit them too fast, the hits don't register. It makes certain songs (like Train Kept a Rollin' and Cherub Rock) impossible.

Although I'm a bit far from playing Expert on drums, it's bound to be a problem later down the line.

Halo 3 bought by 52% of US Xbox 360 owners

That would explain the 50+ used copies at the local Game Crazy.

DS Fanswag: End of the Year Blowout!

I have a Red and Black DS Lite that came in a Brain Age 2 Bundle. I traded in my Delorean-style launch model to help pay for the upgrade.

My girlfriend has a pink DS Lite with a butterfly painted on with nail polish.

The one American store with daily Wii shipments

Dec 13th 2007 5:12PM (Joystiq)
I'd be wary of things promising to alert you of shipments. Most of the time, the stores don't even know when to expect them.

Recently an angry mob of about twenty people were at my local Game Crazy because they had an "insider tip" that the store was getting a shipment that night. But the store didn't get any shipment. They were expecting at least one shipment before Christmas, but that's all they knew. The Mob was not happy with that. Luckily, their anger was limited to yelling and threats of violence, but no actual violence.

Smaller groups, including some of the original Angry Mob, showed up every night until finally, a UPS truck did show up with a shipment of Wii. However, there was only 5 consoles. And they had to be checked in for inventory (or something like that. I don't work there.) So they couldn't be sold that night. A couple of Game Crazy employees had to escort he delivery driver to and from his truck because several of the customers threatened to attack him and get a Wii. They were probably empty threats, but better safe than sorry.

I'd hope this is a rare occurance, but I have a feeling it isn't.

But yeah, I wouldn't promote anything that promises to let you know when a store will get Wiis. The only reliable way is just calling the store and getting lucky.

Portal bucks masculine first person shooter trends

I majored in English and I don't take English majors seriously. That wasn't my point. I was clarifying a common misconception about Freudian psychology and literature theory.

You commented about something you knew nothing about. Then you get upset that I called you on your bullshit. And you say I'm the one with the ego problem?

Critical analysis of any work isn't something that most people really need to understand or care about. But it is important in its context. People that are saying this is over-analyzed have no idea. This is what genuine criticism looks like. In fact, it's probably on the shallow side.
