Killzone 3 review: Third time's the harm

Feb 3rd 2011 6:45PM (Joystiq)
@Spunky Monkey 190906 Nobody thought Killzone 2 was bad because it was not enough like COD. It was bad because it lacked any type of variety or fun. The thrill of the game lasted about a weekend for most people and that was it. Just look how quickly the online community died for that game.

In terms of the controls "weightiness is just fine", but when there is so much lag that the controls feel sluggish then that is not acceptable in any FPS. I played KZ2 for one weekend and was bored out if my mind.

One of its main MP problems was the fact that all the maps were boring and unoriginal. Plus they all looked the same, just with different color filters. Making a game that lasts online for a few years takes more work the just making it pretty.

@sammo21 Halo shallow? Halo had one of the deepest plot lines in games over the last 10 years. At times it could become a bit overwhelming and some people found it hard to follow, but if you were there from the beginning it was a great narrative for a game, minus a few snafus here and there.

To each his own, but a shallow story usually does not produce such a large amount of media related to a game.

Surprise surprise surprise. If you spend that much time making your game so pretty you will always end up with a lackluster experience. Seems naughty dog is the only PS3 dev that can push the graphical limit of a game and at the same time make a compelling narrative.

Killzone has never been a good franchise, I imagine that the online for this will die just about as quick as it did in Killzone 2. Kinda sad because Sony still does not have a AAA FPS franchise (Exclusive at least). It is the one Genre where they really fall behind the PC & 360. Move is not gonna help that any either, a boring game is a boring game, no matter how you play it.

While I am sure the Sony people will poo poo this thing to death (because fanboys are morons no matter which side they are on), I think it could be a nice way to hang out with friends. I spend a bit of time talking with friends online and this would be a neat way of interacting. It would feel a bit more organic. Doing the same thing in HOME is boring and tedious because there is no life in the world they created. Avatar Kinect may suffer the same fate, but we will have to see.

And since you can record it I see a huge boon in Machinima stuff coming from this kind of app.

60 million PSN accounts created to date, says Sony's Stringer

LOL, Sony and their funny numbers. Spend one day on PSN and you will realize that 45 million of those accounts are never used.

What in the world makes them think a PSP phone would be a good idea? They can't even make the PSP itself worth the money. It has probably been the most disappointing device over the last 5 years.

Hey Sony, spend less time on hardware no one wants and more time making an online service that is actually worth a damn!!!

Kaz Hirai: Price 'perhaps' an issue with PSP Go

Uh I think the fact that there are like two good games are year on the PSP is more of a problem then anything. Besides God of War and Metal Gear there is almost no reason to own a PSP. I think its a nice device, but its been a utter failure. Nintendo has screwed Sony more then once this generation.
