WRUP: The Fool's Errand

Apr 2nd 2011 12:03PM (Joystiq)
Cliff Johnson has been working on the sequel to The Fool's Errand for eight years. He just contacted his preorder folks with an update. If you're looking for a good interview, he'd be a great one.

Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure announced, incorporates augmented reality

@kgoo867 Not if this game turns out to be quality. Let it be what it's going to be before you judge it. If it's bad, then you've got a point. Right now, you've got some screens and an announcement. Slow down, cowboy.

@LOMDR @skyblaze C'mon. You haven't played it, you're not the target market, and you don't know if it's fun for kids yet. I think you're judging all this on very little info, way too early, and at the end of the day, my point stands: It's not being built for you. if you find it fun, great, but the target here is obviously not you. Let the kids decide if it's fun or not.

You're in the camp of the original three Insomniac games; I hear people talk about the later, slightly darker Legend of Spyro series as if those are the best in the series. I think it's very much what you grew up playing, and what resonated with you at the time. So if the next generation likes this Spyro...what's the problem? Your original games and your memories remain. Access them anytime.

@Xoonaka Toys For Bob has been around since the late 90s and is, in fact, the studio that created the original Star Control. They also did the Pandemonium games for PlayStation, then moved into family fare like the Madagascar licensed games. The name, believe it or not, is a coincidence. Check toysforbob.com for more info.

Um, for everyone who played Spyro as a kid and sees this as nostalgic heresy...has it occurred to you that this was not made for you? You were a kid when you enjoyed Spyro. Now the next generation of kids get their version of Spyro. LET GO.

Every game put out is not made for you, even if you recognize its core character.

California gallery becomes vintage arcade in March

Feb 3rd 2011 3:07PM (Joystiq)
I plan to attend. But 30 machines sounds like a good start. I recommend the California Extreme show up in NorCal. Last year there were 470 cabinets and pinballs, all set to free play. Your jaw will drop.

EA: Movie licenses going the 'wrong way' for game publishers

Nov 30th 2010 7:12PM (Joystiq)
Interestingly, Activision shares this outlook. Bobby Kotick said a few months back that Activision is focusing more on original IPs and is less interested in licensed games: http://ds.ign.com/articles/112/1120884p1.html

If two big publishers feel the same on this topic, I'm happy to see it. It's not like game studios cannot come up with compelling content, as we've seen time and again.

How Ellen DeGeneres got Matthew Perry his role in Fallout: New Vegas

Aug 16th 2010 1:37AM (Joystiq)
Matthew Perry was also a secret character in NBA Hangtime, purely because he was both a fan of the NBA and a vocal fan of NBA Jam. Good for him!

Modern Warfare 2 subscription message dismissed as 'just a glitch'

Jul 20th 2010 5:01PM (Joystiq)
@Che J P This is the wisest thing I've seen -- glad someone remembers that the market holds the power no matter what happens.
