WD's Elements Play media streamers bring internal HDDs at a presumably good price

Aug 9th 2010 1:53AM (Engadget)
@Almo

For a home setup, yes, but I would like something like this as well because a) I travel a lot and this would work great for a hotel room where you don't want to bring along several devices and loads of cables and b) I like to bring my movies around to a friend's house sometimes - again a lot easier with just one box.

Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse rumor resurfaces, expected in September for $69.95 (updated)

@Information Central: And this is based on what, your months of experience using a multitouch mouse? Oh wait, you've never actually touched one, have you? You just hate everything that Apple does.

Samsung's 12.2MP PL90 point and shoot packs inbuilt USB plug, 4x optical zoom

of all the things i've ever wished for on a digicam, a built-in USB plug never even came close to being on the list. especially one with questionable real-world usability or durability.

Well, it's questionable what value it has, but supposedly they use lasers to scan the shape of the speaker driver in order to pinpoint possible sources of distortion. Anyway, friends of mine rave about their PureFi Anywhere 2 iPod speakers, so hopefully these will be even better. I'm in the market for something anyway.

Square payment system is coming back in full force by 'late summer'

Aug 4th 2010 6:53AM (Engadget)
@Mike Mike

No, it's not like the Octopus Card at all. In fact, it's the exact opposite. The Octopus Card is another payment method which allows CONSUMERS to buy things. The Square system is a mobile credit-card solution to allow MERCHANTS another way of accepting payments.

And no, that's not how much coffee costs. He's buying something at a fictional coffee shop but it could be a pound of coffee or some mugs or something.

No, if anything it would appeal to the people SELLING to the impulse buying crowd (which, let's face it, is everyone).

for that much money, can't they hire some designer to make it, you know, not ugly?

BlackBerry Torch first hands-on! (update: video)

@Plazmic Flame

"Elegant styling" I guess if it's in the specs, it must be true /s

Honestly, though, I'm not feeling the design. It looks decidedly 90's. It's almost as if RIM seems to think their user base is infatuated with QWERTY keyboards (and maybe they are) and they just can't seem to let go. Well, I'm not a big fan of QWERTY's myself - especially portrait ones - but I will say that, no matter how you feel about all-touchscreen devices, the fact remains that they SELL.

RIM launches BlackBerry 6 platform

@Almo

Blackberry already has an active community of developers and I assume that there will be backwards-compatibility, or at least easy migration tools. By the way, you mean "Its", not "It's".
