@(Unverified) I agree -- the picture taking was always fun for me. And not only that first helicopter sequence, when you could indulge in some violent, undead voyeurism (note that the designers left you powerless to actually assist, you could only choose to photograph or not.) The in-game photo mechanics were a little clunky at times, but the idea was right -- some more unique events, some randomized, silly GTA-style behaviors, and you could have turned picture-taking into an entire experience unto itself, like driving around in San Andreas just photographing wild stuff.
A GTA game would be great! It could be about a ruthless killer, possibly a mobster, and could really let the viewers indulge in some sadistic acts; chainsaws, gunning/running down dozens - hundreds even! - of innocent civilians, police, committing every crime in the book, and throw in some gratuitous nudity, and near-limitless ammo.
Oh, wait. We've GOT that already; it's called: "Every mindless, boring, self-indulgent, sadistic action movie + torture porn flicks like Hostel."
GTA is GTA *because* it doesn't translate into any other medium; and it doesn't translate into any other medium because it's not a story, or a plot-driven, sweeping, timeless, epic, narrative -- it's a decidedly awesome kill-simulator. That's about it. And it's great.
But there's a reason no one has made it yet. And there's a reason that Tetris: the Movie doesn't exist. And why Doom was so atrocious. And.. Dead or Alive. And Silent Hill ... Street Fighter ... Far Cry... Super Mario Bros...
