iPad 2 camera supplier selected, remains mum

Dec 16th 2010 3:24PM (TUAW.com)
I saw a demo of 7-Eleven's store inspection software (implemented on Microsoft's Tablet PC). In the software they can be filling out a form with a pen and next to where they are writing they can take a picture to add to their comments. In the demo I saw this was implemented with a big ugly USB webcam sticking out of the side, but you get the idea.

I also saw a demo for Microsoft's Courier concept tablet where a designer took pictures of color swatches for her design portfolio. I don't know how pratical it was, but it seemed to have its use.

It's not immediately obvious, but there are uses... especially for businesses.

We noticed this with video as well.

Apple won't support iPhone to iPad tethering

Jun 4th 2010 4:02PM (TUAW.com)
Yeah... I didn't articulate that my point was if they wanted to allow it today, they'd have to do it with WiFi sharing, which DESTROYS the iPhone.

However, yeah... the iPad is supposed to be a PC replacement. I take back what I said... Apple sucks.

Apple won't support iPhone to iPad tethering

This is likely a decision regarding battery life and not one that had anything to do with AT&T.

I know when I use WiFi sharing via MyWi (and I've heard this said of Froyo WiFi sharing) or Bluetooth sharing (when it was semi-supported for a while) that my battery drains super fast. In fact, it goes so fast that even when plugged unto a wall outlet the phone will *still* die (albeit slower).

I'm not one to stick up for Apple in a lot of these situations, but in this case, having tried it out, I can say it is very likely about physical limitations and not about secret back-room agreements.

Courier new? Gizmodo posts alleged pics and video of MS Tablet

The thing that people don't seem to be paying attention to is that J. Allard is the one behind this - the guy behind the xbox 360. These guys are good at making consumer electronics. Despite the manufacturing defects that plagued the 360, the device itself is really nice and the software on it has been very good from the beginning.

I welcome this competition. As someone who would like to replace my moleskine with something a bit more digital, I'm excited by both Microsoft and Apple racing to make something work.

Yeah, there's an app for that. But for how long, and at what cost?

Nevermind... I just spotted it. It's ridiculous that this happens.

Yeah, there's an app for that. But for how long, and at what cost?

You forgot to mention that these developers are now bearing the brunt of the refunds people are asking for. AND the devs have to PAY the FULL price back to Apple when a customer asks for a refund, not just the 70% they got from the original sale.

I wouldn't code for the App Store on a bet.

GV Mobile and Voice Central pulled from App Store

Jul 27th 2009 11:07PM (TUAW.com)
Thank goodness Apple was there to save me from myself. I was so confused when I signed up for that Google Voice account and paid money for that GV Mobile program to make phone calls through my google voice account. I didn't know what I was doing. I lost my head. I'm so sorry Apple. I might have lost my way but you brought me back.

They bring up a good point though... The Android GV app actually replaces the phone functionality. Maybe I should get one of those phones instead.
