Disney moves to close Split/Second developer Black Rock

Jul 1st 2011 2:32PM (Joystiq)
I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Split/Second" wasn't much fun to play, i.e. rubberbanding a.i. from hell. Word of mouth, the used market, competition. Whatever. Black Rock put a lot of pizzazz into a game that lacked the fundamental element of joy.

Disney confirms layoffs at Split/Second dev Black Rock

Hope they programmed in some rubberbanding for their jobs. Sorry, I know that's terrible but I really hated the fun killing rubberbanding in Split/Second. Seriously, I wish the Blackrock folks all the best.

Enslaved underperforms with 460,000 sold worldwide

@eat it Admittedly the game went off the rails (figuratively speaking) in the middle, such as when you go looking for machine parts in the oddest of places. I also admit that I got this game through Goozex and sent it back after 5 days. But the narrative and combat were solid. The platform was also fun in those levels that kept the illusion that you had more than just one way to go. The ending was confusing, yes. But what good endings aren't?

Joystiq Top 10 of 2010: Split/Second

@Shadsy Split/Second deserves to be overlooked. Even though the concept and graphics are great, the gameplay is frustrating. In single player, hard earned winds wins are cheaply stolen by bad rubber banding a.i. In the sparsely populated multiplayer, any player that pull away from the pack can win by a margin of up to 20 seconds or more. Hardly the kind of "split second" the developer was going for.

Worst bug ever: a bridge jump in Interstate '76. You weren't supposed to make it, but you could and if you did the mission broke. You had to backtrack to trigger the mission end.

There is a sign. That's all the reason I need.
