TUAW's Daily App: Corkbin

Jul 8th 2010 9:56AM (TUAW.com)
i've used WineList for about 2 years now - exact same functionality except for the social networking stuff, so there's no login. it's no-frills and works great. the graphics aren't nearly as fancy as Corkbin but i don't really need fancy graphics - i just want to get in, enter the details about the wine and get out, and it works just fine for that.

Word on TheStreet is that you shouldn't buy an iPhone 4

Jun 24th 2010 1:22PM (TUAW.com)
um, someone's on the wrong blog, because if you haven't noticed, this blog isn't about politics or civil rights or sociology or starving children - it's an Apple blog. the writer is working for a blog about Apple products and is doing his job writing about them.

also @punkassjim you have a fantastic point as well. Good Jorb!

iPad adds Screen Rotation lock. Recumbent users scream "Finally!"

jailbreakers being smug in the comments is pretty old school, too.

that said, this is long overdue for iphone. i doubt they'll add another hardware button to the iphone for it, but a software switch to turn off screen rotation seems simple enough.

Just how bad is AT&T?

Feb 13th 2009 9:50AM (TUAW.com)
If this were my first cell phone, i probably wouldn't have any complaints, but having moved to AT&T from Verizon solely for the iPhone, the difference in service is very noticeable. Consider that with Verizon, i had not one single dropped call in 3 years of service, and my iPhone drops a call about 2-3 times a week, and sometimes has difficulty placing a call in the first place. If this were any other phone (or if i spent more time on the phone than i do) i would've dropped AT&T by now. BTW my experience is with living in both Columbus, OH and Ann Arbor, MI.

Off the Grid: Scrabble and the elusive letter "Q"

Jan 18th 2007 12:48PM (Joystiq)
i had no idea Scrabble had such an un-sexy rep.

myself, i'm eagerly awaiting a DS version of Scrabble. i think it's a perfect platform for it.

The worst video game ads (PC edition)

Nov 28th 2006 8:20PM (Joystiq)
reading the rest of the feature, i stand by my 'lazy author' comment. notice that a great deal of the criticism he writes is directed not towards the ads themselves, but the products they're advertising.

The worst video game ads (PC edition)

Nov 28th 2006 7:47PM (Joystiq)
uh, yea, i quite clearly remember the female crossbow assassins from Half Life.. you came up that service elevator and quickly got your ass handed to you. it was quite a difficult section of the game.

nothing bothers me quite like a lazy author...

How much time are you getting out of your games?

Sep 25th 2006 11:25PM (Joystiq)
what the heck is clive thompson doing in Tomb Raider: Legend that he hasn't beaten the game in 30 hours?!? i played it through twice and it probably totaled 15-20 hours.. that's got to be a mistake!

the reason i played it through twice is specifically because when i beat the game the first time, i felt i did not get my money's worth (and i bought the game used for about 15 dollars).. i think 20 hours is a great length for a game and although some would say more is better, it really also depends on the quality of the game. Half Life 2, for example, is about 15-20 hours, but after completing it i felt i had completely gotten my money's worth simply because of the quality of the experience.
