Lost Winds dev: Reviewers are a problem with low Wii metacritic scores
Jun 20th 2009 12:09PM (Joystiq)Boom Blox sales stack up
Jul 30th 2008 9:52PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Wii Fanboy walks you through the Nintendo Channel
May 7th 2008 10:44PM (Joystiq Nintendo)Wii Warm Up: Do you finish?
May 5th 2008 11:37PM (Joystiq Nintendo)- Zelda TP - Saved in the sky cannon room, got tired of sitting on hold with Nintendo, refuse to restart.
- Zack & Wiki - Sword fighting in a puzzle game? I quit.
- Super Paper Mario - Um, the levels all feel the same after you get used to the 2D-3D flipping coolness. Lost interest.
- Smash Bros. Brawl - Is not a good action game no matter how badly it wants to be played that way. I'll get around to unlocking characters in Brawl mode eventually.
And I'm getting a little tired of games that you can't fully "beat" unless you play them for months on end like an OCD freak. I'm looking at you, Warioware, Raving Rabbids and SM Galaxy...
Counting Rupees: The WiiCube
Apr 24th 2008 10:51PM (Joystiq)By all measures of the horse race, Nintendo is crucifying the competition. It's doing it with 5yo hardware and a gimped online strategy. And it's making gobs o' cash doing it, leaving the nerd masses puzzling until their puzzlers are sore.
Wii is not a "lie;" Wii does not have a single marketing problem; Wii is slaugtering the rest of the gaming industry with a product aimed laser sharp at its target demo - loyalists, casuals and backslidden Xer gamers. "There HAS to be a problem, right? There's not? Let's make one up!!!" Give it a rest.
Wii will slay again this Christmas. It will bow out in two years after Animal Crossing, a new IP and one last Zelda game. And then we'll see Super Wii, and it will be three GCs ducktaped together, and it will kill the market again until Nintendo gets too big for its britches a second time with the introduction of the $800 Nintendo God Box.
Wii tie ratio 8:1 in December, still trailing life-to-date
Jan 26th 2008 9:07AM (Joystiq)Software tie-in rates are only of interest to three parties - Sony, Microsoft and retailers. Nintendo couldn't care less, because - oh yeah - they make a PROFIT on every Wii that leaves their production line. Software tie-ins are important to Sony and Microsoft, because their gaming divisions have yet to turn or just barely turned a profit. They are dependent on software sales to stop the bleeding.
The old model of "sell the razor at a loss and overcharge for the blades" does not apply to Nintendo. They have to have a minimal software attach rate to keep the retailers happy, but with Wiis disappearing from shelves like bread before an ice storm, no retailer can afford to ignore Nintendo. Sony and MS could end up completely overshadowing Nintendo's install base (unlikely) and STILL not make nearly as much cash.
Now, go find a really interesting statistic: How many CONTROLLERS is each game company selling? I'll bet you Nintendo's attach rate for controllers CRUSHES Sony and MS. Rag on casual games all you want, but I'll bet you they move the Wiimotes.
Rumor: Anonymous Microsoft source reveals truth about the Red Ring of Death
Jan 21st 2008 11:10PM (Joystiq)And defending Joystiq for being tools does not become you either. That whole third graph was a load of shwag-protecting CYA. I could hear MS's public relations office cracking the whip from here.
Nintendo welcomes two new marketing execs
Jan 14th 2008 11:51PM (Joystiq)The only people who give a good goddamn who answers their press inquiries at Nintendo are you...not the readers. Please, fellatiate the press hacks elsewhere. This is a family blog.

Dec 28th 2007 11:58PM (Joystiq)Nintendo: Wii shortage causing planning problems
Dec 20th 2007 9:53PM (Joystiq)Ha. Haha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh, keep on wishing, you hardcore twats. It's deja vu all over again. I can't wait until next year when you're still trying to call the top speed of this train. "I swear, any day now, people are going to stop buying Wiis like they are made of solid crank! It HAS to stop!"
Sorry, kiddies. Despite desperate claims from Sony that it will pull its head out of its ass eventually and save hardcore gaming, the writing is on the wall. It's old people and casual time from here on out.
Word to Sony and Microsoft - get cracking on a FPS/MMORPG that can be played with a beer in one hand and special controller in the other. Cuz that's the only way you'll ever make money on your mammoth investment in those two waffle irons you call systems.
