A tale of two hidden blades, eternally retold: Ezio v Ezio in Soulcalibur 5

Jan 24th 2012 11:19AM (Joystiq)
I know there is a legitimate grip with how the series is turning out when it comes to these 3rd party characters but something about Ezio in SCV feels....right. Maybe if Namco didn't abuse the idea so much it would feel way cooler.

A Diversity of Roguelikes

Jan 19th 2012 4:45PM (Joystiq)
I really enjoyed reading this as the "Rogue" genre has recently become a favorite of mine.

I haven't tried BoI yet but it looks like I must now. The iphone library also has a surprising amount of quality Rogue games. 100 Rogues comes immediately to mind for me. Pixel Slime and Legend of Yore are also fun, yet very basic.

I think the ability to create a game that has random elements and levels really is a testament to high caliber game design. Rogue titles seem to fit this well, at least the ones I've played.

PSA: Soulcalibur now on iOS, is twelve freaking dollars

@tendoboy1984

I think the quality represents the price.

Many iphone games are "quick play" with not much content, justifying the low price. Doesn't mean the games are low in quality and fun but many aren't worth more then say a few bucks imho.

I don't think Mario 3DS is a good comparison. Soul Calibur is an old game that's been ported before AND is CHEAPER on platforms that offer a better experience in content/visuals/control (opinion but I think people would agree).

So is the premium of the game being portable on your cell phone worth $15? I would argue no.

In comparison, Street Fighter 4 was $10 bucks (I think) when it came out. SF 2 Collection was $4.

I couldn't agree more.

We're not 'blacking out' today (but we still don't like SOPA)

@Dionkey

I agree that it won't pass but that's BECAUSE of all the hype. These companies wouldn't have pulled out if their customers said "Yes, please kill the internet." The whooping amount of negative reactions and press has been a huge blow in hurting SOPA.

Something as simple as Google blacking out it's banner is going to get THAT much more hype/awareness. Heck, I can't even wiki myself today.

Yea Sonic works ok on the touch screen due to the one button thing as Startbutton mentioned. Megaman though....*shudder*

Great article. While iPhone continues to bulldoze through the game world, the DS' and Psps of the world will stay due to the physical button (and great software)

In the case of SCB I think that the digital imputes aren't 100% accurate and fare to close, but these problems usually disappear after an update. However, it's almost impossible to jump high/shoot fast due to no real buttons. In a game like SCB that's tough. Still one of my favorite quick no nonsense games though.

The only iphone game I've ever played with perfect virtual controls has been pix n love rush.
