Square kills the need for NFC with virtual "tabs" and Card Case

Yeah, I really have no idea what you're talking about. It's quite well known that Europe is more progressive in credit/debit card use than North America has been. I'd be very interested to know what country you are in to make those comments.

Apple's newest peripheral is the Magic Mouse

Oct 20th 2009 12:55PM (TUAW.com)
Well, it's actually an equal-newest peripheral. The Apple Remote has equally has a redesign. But i suppose the the Magic Mouse is listed higher than the remote in the "New to the Store" section :)

The New Xbox Experienced

That's not all it messed up! It has killed video via HDMI for some of us as well. Not a great situation to be in...

Reminder: NXE releases early this morning [update]

Nov 19th 2008 10:26AM (Joystiq Xbox)
I'm having a very odd problem. Updated to the NXE, but now unable to hook up 360 via HDMI. I think it is maybe set too high a resolution as default (all I can think of), as it says, Mode not supported on telly. Have to use component right now, which means unhooking my Wii. Sigh, reminds me of the days of old with my windows and monitors where you had to get the settings just so :)

VMware Fusion 1.1 released

Well, 6, there is 'getting round' activation, and that involves being around piracy.

9, XP Pro, if I remember from my forum trawling regarding activation on Parallels, has virtualisation in the EULA, whereas Home doesn't, meaning Pro you can virtualise, and Home you can't (although "can't" because it doesn't say you "can"). Now Vista I think may be adverse to virtualisation in the EULA, or maybe it's into it; can't remember.

7, you can't "activate twice", windows is tied to one computer generally.

And 16, probably the best solution for someone having trouble with the activation on Boot Camp not appearing to have been noticed whatsoever by Parallels or Fusion (and vice-versa) is that you have to look at the two profiles. If what Windows sees as the computer when using a virtual machine is sufficiently different to what it sees when it uses Boot Camp, it will think that they are separate machines (Correct logic, if a little flawed). What you want to do is try to get them as close as possible. I think in many cases (including my own) this will be purely to do with the RAM allocation. All that needs to be done is for the Virtual RAM to be at least half the Boot Camp RAM (or rather the computer's ram). So, in my case, all I needed to do was increase my Parallels' (now Fusion) RAM from 768MB to 1024MB).

Anyway, maybe that will help people with their Activation woes.

Just to let you know, if you hadn't already found out, you have the option of an OR boolean search in keywords. You just hold down "shift" when selecting your next keyword. Just try out all the modifier keys when adding a keyword...they've really got the searches down to a tee here :)

Mom-of-the-year calls cops on son who opened "PlayStation GameBoy" pre-Xmas

Dec 6th 2006 11:08AM (Engadget)
Also, although the engadget summary does not say it, at the bbc site (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6213012.stm) it explains that he has ADHD, and the article does not give any indication that he is being medicated for this, which if true, is unfortunate for him. Also, the BBC article quotes her as saying "He's been going through life doing things... and getting away with it", which makes me wonder what the hell her parenting has been like. If you get away with something, you aren't punished. So the blame for lax parenting should really be with her. She shouldn't take a back seat and then ask someone else to get involved (police).

This, obviously, is based on the article being factually true. And considering that the machine is apparently described as a PlayStation GameBoy, it seems less hopeful.

Engadget Podcast 081 - 05.23.06

Right, ok, this reminds me of what the people are like over at topofthepods when they recently had quite a number of personal issues they needed to get over. I feel I need to tell people that podcasts are things these people put out for us using their own time. Unless I am entirely wrong, I don't think they get paid for the podcasts. We need to understand that podcasts for these people is a sideline and not the focus of their lives. Be grateful for the 50+ podcasts we have got from them so far. Thank You.
