The novelty's wearing off? Really? Crud. I never got the memo. I've been using the Wii almost daily. In fact, I picked up The Godfather: The Blackhand Edition yesterday.
So pointless and immature, but the people who do this already know that. One reason I'm seriously hoping the Wii doesn't get voice chat. I have absolutely no desire to have profanity constantly screamed at me. I'm no masochist.
What I find interesting is the fact these people have no shame and freely admit, "Yeah, I'm an asshole" in many comments here so far. It's incredibly selfish behavior.
And I agree with whoever said they don't buy into that "I'm nice in person but an asshole online" crap. I don't either. Lots of people like saying online is different. The pervs on those Dateline: To Catch a Predator specials use that line ALL the time, but it doesn't stop them from being convicted. Truth of the matter is, especially in this day and age, online is so closely integrated with the rest of the world excuses like that don't hold water.
Often one's online 'persona' reflects who they really are, much more than the mask they hide behind in person.
I've only bought and played three Pokemon games (Red, Blue, Fire Red) and I've never finished either. I think my interest goes when I realize I have a lot of leveling up to do in order to pass certain parts of the games. I'm sure I'll pick up Diamond or Pearl at some point. I must do what the voice tells me to.
How on earth do they keep coming up with more Pokemon?!
Hahahaha... @ the Playmobil guy. Love that you keep posting this.
Yeah, gamers have become far too jaded and impatient lately. I do like how seemless the integration of Miis is, and I do look forward to seeing how they'll implement them in future games.
Aren't there other things to do until more 'meaty' games come out for the Wii? Homework, perhaps? Taking out the trash before your mom yells at you again? Experience sunlight?
The interesting thing I've learned about parental controls on the Wii is that parents either had their kids' help in setting it up or the kids know the code. I found this out while over at a friend's house. He has a 9-year old. I was trying to check out the Wii Shop Channel and needed the parental control code. Went upstairs and asked what the code was, to which he replied, "Ask [the kid], he knows it."
I find this more common than not, be it cable TV or video game parental controls. Perhaps Nintendo is removing itself from all liability.
I really don't see why friend codes are such a big disappointment since you only enter them once. It certainly doesn't hamper gameplay in my experience with the DS. In some games, like Animal Crossing: Wild World, you can even easily add someone else who's visiting the same town as you. The companies haven't even outlined anything really specific yet.
Whatever they do, I hope there's no voice chat.
For those who are... *rolls eyes* sell their Wiis because of the posibility of friend codes, hurry up and do so. That way someone could enjoy the system.
