The Street: "Mac Owners Are Snobs"

Feb 17th 2008 1:54PM (TUAW.com)
This is a funny assertion by the Street, but even moreso I think it's a funny reaction by most of us. Most os us went right to seeing how many points applied, and for those of us that it didn't really stack up for, we immediately called the thing BOGUS!!!, on the ground that it didn't apply to us, one individual reader. So, that's our flaw. To assume that simply because it doesn't apply to one person, means it's not an accurate generalization.
Personally, as far as the points go, i think it's pretty spot on. I don't meet each of those criteria, but when i throw all of the Mac users I know into a generalized lump versus all the PC users I know, yea... they would tend to be more along the lines of these points.

How all of those points add up to someone being a 'snob' I don't know. My Mac Dictionary Widget (*geeky superiority sound*) defines snob as: a person who believes that their tastes in a particular area are superior to those of other people.

I think it was said, prior to this that that kiiiiinda applies to everyone. I mean, if you didn't think your taste in something was superior, you'd immediately change, and THEN it'd be superior. So that's kind of all of us, right?

See also: As I read over this, I realize how exacting I was, while using my Mac, and how I'm definitely thinking I'm more right than everyone else. I must be a snob. The Street is RIGHT!!!

iTunes Movie rentals now available

Jan 16th 2008 2:31AM (TUAW.com)
Juuuuust want to point out that those of us, like myself, that skipped over AppleTV and shelled out more $$$ for a Mac mini as an entertainment center, have officially been given ye olde shaft by Apple in regards to renting HD flicks (with 5.1 support to boot).

Not happy about it. I realize the desire to want to push the AppleTV product line, but seriously... why no HD in iTunes? Whyyyyyy?

Front Row update

Jan 16th 2008 12:27AM (TUAW.com)
Maybe. I didn't watch the keynote itself admittedly. I'll go ahead and do that.

In the meantime, it IS a bit odd. People with AppleTV are reporting rentals are available, but anyone anywhere who wants a rental via iTunes itself (and thus Front Row) seem to only be able to find the Aristocats. Meanwhile, I've honestly been a little bewhildered by a complete lack of confusion over it all within the Apple blogosphere...

Stevekins saying something in the keynote itself would answer these questions, but not clear up all the confusion for those relying on blogs.

Or maybe I'm just wrong about everything... which is possible. :)

Front Row update

Jan 16th 2008 12:11AM (TUAW.com)
Yea... seasons are skrewy, but at least the odd connection errors I was having with it when hooked up to my HDTV are gone. That's handy.

When I saw the update though, i thought the no brainer situation. Rentals in Front Row (just like the AppleTV interface)... there's really no reason this isn't included.

Duuuuuumbfounding.

Boot Camp... I've always wanted it, but I've got this darn Powerbook.

But the Leopard requirements on Apple.com say everything about the new OS running on my Powerbook, but nothing about how Boot Camp has specific requirements to run.

Is it possible that Apple's now got the old PowerPC architecture running Windows? Is it possible my dreams have come true?

Smash Bros site downgrades release date to 'TBD'

Oct 10th 2007 10:51AM (Joystiq)
Maybe it was fool-hearted on our part, but all of my pals from college are coming down to VA for an entire weekend CENTERED around the release of this freakin' game. We were gonna sit around, eat, drink, and play video games (read: SMash Bros) just like old times... but now... *shakes head in disappointment*

Only semi-related, but speaking of the iPod camera connector... I just plugged that puppy into my new 6G iPod classic, and it gave me a big fat 'Unsuppored. This accessory is not supported" screen.

Le sigh.

Honestly, as sappy as it is, the end when all he can think about is his love just before being arrow'd to death is pretty touching.

Awww, how sweet.

Wii developers talk shop

Apr 6th 2007 10:30AM (Joystiq)
I for one immediately thought of how when purchasing Wii Points it seems as though the "positive/yes/continue-like" response seems to switch sides... something that's resulted in my having to re-enter my CC info more than once when I'd proceed to the next screen and to proceed I'd have to click a button on the other side of the screen from where I just clicked to continue.

Anyone else feeling that?
