Feb 16th 2012 3:20PM (Joystiq)I also agree that the Vita has a lot for the price, but that's not what the average consumer sees; the average consumer sees the price tag. It was the same with the PS3; there were plenty of justifications for the $600 price tag, but they fact is it still cost $600, and people were not so happy. 3DS, same thing. That's assuming price is the main issue, of course; I really don't know. The biggest culprit for its sales in Japan seems to be all the Western-focused games, so we'll see how that goes. Either way, they need to fix whatever the problem is fast.
I did buy the 3DS at $250, and I knew there would be a price cut soon; I just loved the system and believed that for me, a serious fan of video games, it was worth it. I wasn't upset when the price dropped so quickly; on the contrary, I was happy. Lower price = more customers = more games, and that's the crux of this rumor.
As a side note, I am an unapologetic Nintendo fanboy, but that doesn't mean I think every comment has to be a fan of one console insulting the other. Not only is there room for both, it's necessary to have both. Competition breeds creativity. The 3DS is not for "5 year olds" unless you routinely let your kids play Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid (not to mention the 5 Call of Duty games on the original DS), and it's far too early to call the Vita doomed unless you believe early sales in one region determine everything.
Sony just needs to fix the price or whatever other problem is holding Vita back in Japan, and both systems will do great.

Jan 18th 2012 4:57AM (Joystiq)1. Voting with your money is always good for showing companies how you feel, but be realistic; Mario Kart 7 was the best selling game of 2011 in Japan, and it came out in DECEMBER. So they're probably not too concerned with any individual person's purchase.
2. As others have mentioned, cheat-enabling glitches in online games are nothing new.
3. I think some of you are paranoid. I really don't think Nintendo is out to lie to anyone. I've heard about patches on the 3DS for downloaded games, but not for games on carts. Either way, I'm sure there's a reason for it. A company doesn't get to this level of prominence by being lazy.

Rumor: Sony working on a Smash Bros-esque fighter featuring Sony all-stars
Nov 29th 2011 6:03PM (Joystiq)In addition, Super Smash Bros is most enjoyable, even for people who know nothing about the characters, due to its off the wall nature. I would argue that the majority of Sony first party titles are far too serious to allow that kind of gameplay. For every Daxter there's a Nathan Drake, for every Ratchet a Kratos. It seems far more likely to me that it will play like a traditional fighting game, and that isn't likely to draw in anyone who doesn't already know the characters.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl had Solid Snake; one reason people loved that so much is that he didn't fit the environment at all compared to the rest of the characters. That loses its effect when half the characters don't fit the environment; as such, if they do make the game play like Smash Bros, it will seem out of place.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they'll put together a classic-style fighting game that draws in new audiences. On the other hand, maybe they're fine going after a niche audience. I guess the overall point I'm trying to make is that I don't believe this game will have what made Smash Bros so successful. It might have something else, but it won't have that.
