Based on your tiny focus group Nintendo is then doing exactly what you want. I think its crazy to think that DVD playback wouldn't cost a little extra money, or if it doesn't, a little extra unnecessary processing with more risk of energy consumption, freezing, RROD, etc.

Nintendo isn't just a group of people with a vendetta against DVD's from killing their parents. Sorry.
