WoW Xfire hours played drops 18 percent in September

Oct 9th 2007 9:00PM (WoW)
On June 20, 2007, Valve announced a major update "The Steam Community", which would allow users to setup their own personal pages on Steam, along with many other social networking tools. Valve also believes that this will be the biggest update to Steam since its initial release. This update was released as a beta on August 6, 2007 and was officially released on September 12, 2007.

Enter to win a Spectral Tiger Mount from WoW Insider!

I'm all over this contest. As much as I love the card game, trying to get a loot card is like finding a PUG healer.

Legends of the fall damage

The elevator in SSC moves faster than a player in freefall. Thankfully, there's enough time between the top of the shaft and the solid ground at the bottom to unequip all your gear.

Breakfast Topic: What should Nihilum do now?

Wow. A significant portion of this community seems to dislike hardcore raiders. Grats Nihilum.

Is Guitar Hero breakin' the law? Breakin' the law?

Apr 5th 2007 4:18PM (Joystiq)
jonahfalcon's argument hinges on the concept that Guitar Hero II is not a single game, but a series of smaller games, or songs. If jonah would step back and look at the larger picture, I'm sure he'd realize that there's a logical progression of difficulty throughout the game, and Harmonix probably knew what they were doing when they didn't let you play Freebird as soon as you opened the box.

The fundamentals you learn in Shout at the Devil are directly applicable to the finale in Freebird. The progression in Guitar Hero is not put in place to constrain you, the player, but to facilitate your enjoyment of the game.

Would you enjoy WoW more if you could enter Karazhan at level one? Would you enjoy Metroid more if you started with every powerup? I don't know about anybody else, but I'll take the unlockables.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams confirmed for Wii this winter

Realizing of course, that this is not the Sonic Team of 1996, but the Sonic Team that brought us Sonic Riders, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the gen-now Sonic the Hedgehog. To say I'm cautiously optimistic would be pushing it.

Devil May Cry 4 trailer: slammin beat!

Mar 22nd 2007 3:51PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Without spin-
"Unfortunately, it looks like Capcom decided to pull these phrases off of a '90s era high school trapper keeper."

With spin-
"It looks like Capcom has managed to make Devil May Cry's fourth installment even more boss than the third, which must have been difficult, because DMC3 was the boss of applesauce."

Now watch:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=sPR8bBmUYlg

As a series, Devil May Cry has run the gamut from motorcycle fights (that is, the use of a motorcycle as a totally radical bludgeon) to slow motion midair pizza eating. Most games aim to be as awesome as a ninja or a pirate, or even Chuck Norris. DMC aims higher. DMC aims for Arthur Fonzarelli. Witness the mighty punch Dante delivers to the jukebox. Internet take note: that is what awesome looks like.

Are gay characters becoming a 'non-troversy'?

@54:

"I always thought the guy-on-guy kissing in Bully was a glitch."

It seemed pretty deliberate, to me. There is one boy and one girl in each clique which Jimmy could kiss. There's full voice-over for the same-sex kissing animations: "Ever been kissed by a rich boy before?"

Kirby, the 'kissable' jock, and Trent, the 'kissable' bully are shown going to the movie theater together during a cutscene. When Jimmy points them out, Kirby gets very defensive and runs away. Classy, running away from a date like that. :[

It's official: Guitar Hero II heading to Xbox 360

Sep 27th 2006 10:32PM (Joystiq)
"Hey, guess who already did ALL of those games? Hint: Konami. DrumMania, GuitarFreaks, Karaoke Revolution, KeyboardMania. Please die, Guitar Hero fanboys."

The key difference between Bemani and Guitar Hero is that more people have heard of Iron Man than, say, The Least 100 Seconds.

Karaoke Revolution integrates with DDR. Although this is similar to what Kevin describes, somehow I just don't think it fits in with his vision of 'lol a whole band' Hero.

Most people are probably looking for something a little more affordable than a DrumMania cabinet; something that they don't have to ship across the Pacific. Even if you imported "GuitarFreaks & DrumMania Masterpiece Silver" for your PS2, I'd wager most people would be a lot more satisfied running to the Best Buy to buy GH2.

I'm guessing that what Kevin wants to see is a game that lets you and your friends play different roles in a band on a home console, with popular music at a reasonable price. I'd purchase such a game.
