38 Studios head Curt Schilling apologizes for 'buggy' Reckoning demo

Jan 27th 2012 7:24PM (Joystiq)
@gamersrstupid NP man. Thanks for linking it for others to read. It really has sold me on the concept of this game, and what makes it stand out from the rest of the RPG pack. I feel like it's what I've been looking for. The new video Joystiq posted earlier also has helped me lean towards a "I'll buy this."

It looks like they took the cool fun exploring features of World of Warcraft and wrapped it around a very solid single player PVE RPG. My hopes are being raised with the more and more that I read about the game. I'm just sad the demo was such a blunder, and hope the final game ends up being just as fun as Mike wrote it out to be in his post on PA.

@(Unverified) God damnit, it won't switch me from "unverified." It's been like a year Joystiq!

The demo pissed me off. I had to disable what made it look pretty to play it? No thanks! This explains a lot. I'm still going to wait for reviews, but I'm even more interested now that I read the write-up on Penny-Arcade today. The idea of a magical rogue reminds me of the main character of Brent Weeks Night Angel trilogy, and I LOVED that. So I'm thinking this is going to be a go if reviews for PC don't state massive performance bugs/issues.

I agree. It seems very shady that they are forced to show physical sales, but not digital. It's still sales, and more is always better than none. Your investors would rather see something than nothing.

I think some of the long loading isn't due to loading game assets, but is instead syncing the client and the server. I think they are throttling player connections to the server node for that instance, and that takes a fair amount of time. The progress bar always stops at one point, and then the music starts and the assets for that world load.

Origin isn't actually required to play the game. I've yet to have to actually launch it. If it was required I wouldn't have made the purchase at all. I regret buying BF3 because of Origin, and I won't be purchasing Mass Effect 3 at all because of it. The fact that another EA game, Kingdoms of Amalur, is coming to Steam, but ME3 is not is very clear that EA is playing a game with Valve. It's very very dirty. In the end the ones they hurt the most are the fans of their games. I'd sure love to play Mass Effect 3, but I have saves from 1 and 2 on the PC, and don't own a 360. So forcing me to use Origin means I'll just instead choose not to play it, unfortunately. :(

You are also 200% right about dollar performance vs graphical performance in relation to the article. It's entirely too early to call anything as the game is merely a month old at this point. The game needs to be looked at in 6 months, in 9 months, etc. Then it can be determined what the financial outcome of the title was. Any analysis at this point is premature.

Um WoW had one raid at launch. SWTOR has one Operation. There is another coming. PVP was already there as well. I guess that's "not enough" for you? What are you expecting? There are plant of hard-mode flash points to run, and an entire planet of content for level 50 players. Again, with more on the way. Not everyone power leveled to 50 and then rage quit. Play another class, go enjoy the story for that class, or just go play another game. Better yet? Go outside and enjoy the world. Go travel somewhere. See something you've never seen before.

I noticed those too. It's only happened on Taris for me so far. I haven't seen it elsewhere. I think it's related to the lighting system, but I'm no developer so that's just a guess.

Seriously? You seriously just typed that mess above? Because someone is having fun and you're not the game is obviously a total failure? Grow up. The game is a resounding success in some areas, and others need work. It's the nature of the MMO industry. They will always tweak and fix. Some things won't work, but they'll then adjust. It's how it's always worked. It's why you pay a subscription, so they can continually evolve this world that players are in. You're childish behavior is disgusting and embarrassing, and I'm asking you humbly to just please stop.

@Traptz

You're just a sad little troll now. Please stop.

I have an i7 920 with a 5850 and I run it on high with AA on low at 1920x1080 with NO framerate issues unless I'm in the fleet.
