IGDA still unhappy with Amazon Appstore policies
Jul 8th 2011 3:44PM (Joystiq)The name of the game is money. Honestly, had I not gotten Apparatus as a Free app.... I probably wouldn't have downloaded it at all. It was "okay" in my opinion, kind of a newer Crayon physics. Again, all fine and dandy, but I mean, the developer had to know going into this that prices can change with or without their approval. I'm sure Amazon lowered the price for a "reason", meaning yanno, they didn't think they could get 3 or 4 bucks for it.
Personally... I get that all these apps take time and money to create, but in the end, your finished product is being cloned and sold. So if I develop an app that took me 500 dollars to create, I sell 500 units at a 2 dollars a piece and amazon takes 50 percent, im even. that means, without counting money for updates, and if im not a studio with multiple employees.... everything else is clean profit.
It just brings up the question of... if the game isn't selling... then whats the issue? Would they rather 5 units sold at 3 bucks, or 100 units sold at a dollar?
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D review: Slow and unsteady
Jun 28th 2011 8:56PM (Joystiq)I also enjoyed not only SF, but Pilotwings as well. Then again, I am a fan of the series.
I'm so tired of seeing the word "repetitive" in video game reviews. ITS ALL REPETITIVE. FPS? Shoot, flip switch, repeat. Survival Horror? Shoot, run, flip switch, solve puzzle, repeat. Hell, Even Mario games for the most part are get coins, get stars, fight baddies, repeat.
Point being, it's all repetitive. It's just a matter of the individual gamer on how repetitive repetitive really is.
If these reviews are to continue, might one ask for say, an alternative review? Another set of hands and eyes on the game? *Something* that doesn't scream at me "you couldn't play this well, so you gave it a bad review". I felt when I hit the point that said " In Mercenaries, they represent an almost certain interruption of your combo multiplier, or a calculated drain on your precious time and ammunition. That's not terror -- that's accounting." it was basically a 4 year olds whine when they can't beat a boss, or progress past a certain point. Get over it, and practice.
