Gymkids busts out Step2Play, frustrates lazy children

Nov 6th 2006 7:09PM (Engadget)
The first thing I thought was that someone's little brother is going to get quite the workout. Kids will just force the little guy to work that much harder to be able to hang out with the "big kids."

Music Thing: Korg's Kaoss Pad 3

Aug 5th 2006 4:52PM (Engadget)
I have a Korg mixer with an integrated Kaoss 2 pad. Absolutely incredible the types of sound you can make very easily. In terms of mixing, it gives you so many options to mix the tracks you banged your head trying to figure out how to fit it in to a playlist. Definitely a tool that opens doors and turns heads.

You can't escape: Carnival brings cellular to the open sea

Jun 25th 2006 12:36AM (Engadget Mobile)
I was just on a Royal Carribean cruise a couple weeks ago, and there was cell service (GSM at least) while we were at sea. I believe the rates were similar. So all that to say, sounds like Carnival is just catching up?

The Engadget & Joystiq Interview: Nintendo's Perrin Kaplan

May 15th 2006 5:09PM (Engadget)
You know, at first I was really disappointed by her answers -- or lack thereof. There seemed to be a lot of "well, I dunno...we'll have to see..." But on the other hand, it's better than having a whole lot of promises that don't materialize -- or worse, being copied by competitors.

One thing I am still disappointed by is her response to why it was named Wii. For instance, this quote coming from a marketing guru: "In the end, it's not necessarily what something's named, it's what it does." Of course it matters what it's named!

Overall, very little information, mostly her agreeing that there are still a lot of unanswered questions that were promised to be revealed this past week.

The Engadget & Joystiq Interview: Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto (again!)

May 12th 2006 7:57PM (Engadget)
You know, when I first started hearing about the Wii (or Revolution at the time) I chuckled to myself that Nintendo was about to die. But now I see how wrong I was.

I was talking with my wife the other day about the consoles out there. Now, she is an NES and SNES goddess, but stopped there. When I told her about the new Wii controller, she was hooked. When it comes out, we will be buying a Wii.

Second, I was thinking about the games coming out recently. Many of the games that come out for PS3/X360 are not games that I personally think 12 year olds should be playing. I know, I'm getting old and getting worried, but I know that there are times I'm on the second story, look out a window, and realize what a great sniping position it would make. These games seem to not only be fun and engaging, but perfect games for the younger generation as well as older folks.

That's kind of how I'm feeling about it all. I really believe I'll be getting a Wii. Here's the kicker: And a PS3. I'm a grown man with disposable income, and I want a machine that will push the edges of my HDTV. I don't think it's about choice anymore, the Wii has a focus towards another market and that means a Wii and PS3 are compatible in the living room. And _that_ is what I've been missing.
