I manage to plumb the centre seat, which apparently gives the best impressions of the 3D magic at work, but the appreciative noises emanating from the journos either side of me are reassuring. We play through the same section again, although the pad remains firmly in the hands of the studio representative.
Straight away there's an immediate impact. The weighty, long-barrelled minigun has a real presence in-screen, highlighting the fact that the majority of Killzone's 3D trickery is done via the impression of depth rather than projection. Shuffling behind cover emphasises the effect superbly, each vanishing line and focal reference point making the illusion ever more real.
The game's particle effects really come into their own under the influence of the active shutter glasses too. Snow seems to swirl very distinctly in front of the screen, its fluttering hypnotism starkly punctuated by the bullets which zip and zing towards you. We're told there's a lot of work to be done on the perfection of the 3D yet, and in certain effects that's obvious, but generally the whole effect is a mesmerising one, drawing you into the screen and surrounding you with it, generally just in time to recoil from a projectile or ten. It also adds a competitive advantage, allowing players to judge the jetpack jumps with much greater accuracy. How that will skew the playing field between 3D enabled multiplayer users and their dimension-poorer counterparts remains to be seen.
If you read the Eurogamer preview....they said this...."This is all gameplay, not cut-scene, although scripted sequences weave seamlessly in and out. It's empowering stuff, this death from above malarkey, and a tangible essence of vengeance permeates the scene."
Patcher and pals what do you say now? Patcher and pals just said on the GTTV Sony pre E3 show that they did not think that we would see core games in 3D in this generation because no system can handle it. Well now....it looks like the PS3 can MORE THAN HANDLE IT with KZ3, you know the graphical showcase for FPS's on consoles.
KZ2 only used FOUR of those sick fast SPE's...can we assume that GG is using all 6 this time?
I cannot wait to see the jungle levels, for my own eye candy and to SHUT UP THOSE greyzone azzclowns.
Because we all know that War is bright and colorful just like that power rangers series of games right?
And the last level to take place in ZERO G outer space.
Jaw dropping Crysis 1 or 2 can't hold a candle to that IN GAME SCREEN. Just MO, but seriously, WTF how can a supposed on par system with the 360 be capable of that?
Just imagine this screen in motion...in 3 FRAKKING D!!!!!
PS3 its only in its OWN generation!!!
Future proof looks to be a very, very accurate statement.
Like I said Vidikron....Sony would be sued by thousands and LOSE...and would probably go out of business...something NO ONE WANTS except some extreme fanboys.
It would be beyond a dick move by Sony as well....even if an exploit was found to open up the PS3 using the EE and GS on the original phats...Sony would not remove it.
One thing I think Sony should do...and probably will have to now that they are being sued....is to explain exactly WHY they removed this almost unused feature.
Was it to reduce the XMB memory operating footprint? Fight potential privacy?
As for Sony removing BC from the original Phats....I do not think that there is any chance for that to happen, as Sony would get the mother of all shitstorms and be RIGHTLY sued by thousands of people.
It is ridiculous. Other than supercomputer PS3 clusters (which I hear Sony is working with the USAF and other companies that were using the PS3 as a supercomputer to allow them to continue) I would bet less than 1% of PS3 phat owners actually USED this other OS feature. I thought about using it...but I never got around to it.
Its just the US and British media complaining about it. I remember people on this blog and others mocking the other OS feature because it did not unlock the RSX.
IMO, the phat PS3 is the best system I have ever owned, I use it everyday as does my family for many different things....and I am very thankful to Ken Kutaragi and Sony for giving us a machine that only does everything.
But go ahead and complain some of you.....WHINE about it, even though you more than likely NEVER USED IT.

Maybe you did not play KZ2...or you just have a 360, then I can understand why you think that quality like this is not possible.
