Mocked up CG? The only "CG" if you can even call it that is concept art used as backdrops to the devs themselves talking. The rest is all footage captured from the game itself. People will be playing what you see in that trailer next week at Gamescom, and a couple of weeks later at PAX too.
The swirling mass of rocks (an earth elemental) is something you'll fight in a level 1 area (that will be in the demo at Gamescom), and the giant purple dragon at the end isn't even one of the Elder Dragons we've heard so much about. That dragon will be in the demo too, in a higher level (47) portion of it.
So not only is none of that CG, but we've seen nothing yet.
It's not even a sidekick system exactly, they said your character will automatically scale down to be on the *slightly* high end of the range of levels an area is for. That way when you go to lower level areas, you'll still be powerful, but not brokenly powerful.
Funnily enough it's a similar part of the game being detailed as in this TOR post, albeit a completely different approach. Can't really say at this point which is being more innovative with these novel MMO storytelling approaches. I find both very interesting in that they're taking things into relatively uncharted waters here.
Firstly, of course I'm not expecting them to talk about Korean grindfest X here.
Anyway, I like Bioware as much as the next guy (Neverwinter Nights is my #2 PC game ever), so I do wish them well with ToR.
ToR isn't the only major upcoming MMO making the rounds with major announcements lately though, but it seems to get attention for system details like this almost exclusively here. Call me cynical.
There's a difference between getting a post on Massively and a post here though, and that is that as a general gaming site Joystiq gets a lot more traffic I would imagine.
The art is along the veins of the Persona franchise, so yeah it's somewhat stylised compared to traditional anime. I wouldn't call it exceptional, though.
Coming from soneone who considers Persona 3 & 4 among the greatest RPG's of all time, you can save your money because Trinity Soul is a seriously dissapointing cash-in on the franchise.
It was terrible. Buy Toradora instead if you just want to support NIS, that's an above average show at the least.
