Lackluster Lite launch in UK, Nintendo still committed to DS Phat
Jun 28th 2006 6:52AM (Joystiq)Lackluster Lite launch in UK, Nintendo still committed to DS Phat
Jun 27th 2006 7:04PM (Joystiq)There is a reason WHY the PSP had "broken records to become the fastest-selling games console of all time in the UK". We Just have totally different market compared to the US and Japan.
(Europe used to be nicknamed "Sonyland" and is still dominated by Sony. That’s why the PSP penetrated so well because most people a PS2 and got excited of the prospect of PSP matching PS2’s graphics.)
Nintendo should feel slightly ashamed that their huge monopoly of handhelds has dwindled in the UK since the PSP has no back catalogue of games and is new to the handheld industry but has already broken records already in the UK
Sony should see this as a success for their handheld because it is hard to break up an monopoly. When I had the gameboy, colour, advance everyone felt fine. There was no alternative (the other handhelds like Neo geo, Sega Game Gear, Atari Lynx where all weak in comparison to Game boy)
PSP is probably the best handheld competitor Nintendo has faced. .Sony should be proud because it’s their first handheld after all (kind of)
PSP is offering something Nintendo cannot offer and are using two markets – Gaming and Gadgets while Nintendo are using just one because DS is not deemed as a gadget to casual people.
Despite the Charts PSP has still got the upper hand in the UK.
Both Nintendo and Sony are taking different strategies in advertising. Nintendo feel slightly threatened because as soon as PSP was release here and became the fasted seller. Nintendo has since then been bombarding TV’s with "its good to touch" & co adverts especially on C4 - Channel 4…..Too little to late- (Since DS was not advertised much before PSP launch). Sony has used the buses and bus stands to advertise mainly. Using their slightly controversial (white bits, take a running jump). Even though it doesn’t seem like good advertising more brand awareness came as a result of this and the controversial tones.(Remember there is no such thing as bad publicity)
In my opinion if Nintendo want to capture its handheld share they need to publicize football games more on the DS because in England most men and boys are footy mad (including me). Even the software charts show it day in day out with Pro evo and FIFA on top.

Apr 24th 2006 9:21PM (Joystiq)No touchscreen game before the DS made a blip on the sales chart or got developers excited.
Hell the Nokia N-cage was more popular for gaming then PDAs are.
So yes you need to shut the hell up. The DS is the first gaming system to use touch screen games.

Idioteraser is obviously being an IDIOT here. Have you ever heard Tiger Game.Com

You are obviously ignorant and have your face up Nintendo’s ass if you think that “Nintendo practically invented the touch screen”. They COPIED it – its like saying lets forgot about all the companies who made and developed touch screen gaming but when either Nintendo, MS and Sony try it for some reason it seems like they created it.
Wow the first touch screen to have two screens wow! That’s really innovative.
