Ask Massively: A confluence of awesome edition

Mar 30th 2012 3:03PM (Massively)
@Nenene Lol that's what I was thinking!

It's a shame too because both games had the POTENTIAL to be so much more awesome. The Mass Effect series has generally been quite awesome all-around (except for some of the human faces that damn mako... currently replaying ME1 and I hate that thing) and FFXIII and XIII-2 has some truly awesome music, art, and graphics, and sometimes even the weird battle system is sort of awesome... in small doses.

But they're both really sucking right now with ME3's awful ending, FFXIII-2's awful ending, and FFXIII-2's general rushed-ness, sub-par story, bland characters, and the damn repetitive battle system :\

Assassin's Creed 3's displaced main city: Philadelphia

@liquidsoap89 Ah, the issue of roof-to-roof exploration does make me see their point...

And gliding to get across big avenues is an amazing solution!! o_o

Unless it was done at night, it'd be even more conspicuous than wall-climbing though...

@Naru now in 3D Oh, for the article picture made me think they'd include the present day versions of these cities for Desmond to explore as well as the much earlier versions for this new assassin.

I guess if it's just the earlier versions of the cities what they're saying makes sense.

Wait, so large avenues, flat, grid = bad because of what "gameplay reasons"? Building climbing and the view? The flow of exploration? Graphical limitations?

I don't completely get it.

Also, NYC is arranged in a grid too, is it not?

Anyway, seeing familiar places like NYC recreated faithfully in AC3 should be a pretty cool and surreal experience.

The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Monster MMORPG

Mar 23rd 2012 9:03PM (Joystiq)
Looks like it could be a great game and I like the monster design art a lot, but my immediate thought upon seeing that horse-thing with the fire tail was, "fire-hot diarrhea" and now that's all I'll ever think when I see it!

Here's the Japanese Pokemon Black/White Version 2 box art

Mar 18th 2012 1:23AM (Joystiq)
Pokemon Black and White was a step in the right direction for the franchise. Finally, some innovation that matters to more people than just the hardcore pokebattlers!

I hope they can add even more new and improved things to these sequels.

Why I Play: Star Trek Online

Mar 14th 2012 10:10PM (Massively)
Great article, it's very interesting to hear a new gamer's perspective. I don't know much about Star Trek but I do enjoy sci-fi. Now I want to check it out!

Guild Wars 2 pre-purchase details announced

@Scratches

YES, this is exactly what I was thinking!! Rytlock is cool and all, but I really dont need a prohibitively expensive statue that would just sit ignored in some dark corner of my room.

I would happily pay $80 or maybe even $90 for a physical CE with everything BUT the pointless statue; I love the art and music of this game so the other parts of the CE really appeal to me.

Just not the paperweight.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is free to play this weekend

Mar 14th 2012 3:21AM (Joystiq)
So, I haven't been paying attention to SWTOR for a while now. I just played it in beta and I was mildly, but not hugely, impressed.

Why are people angry with it now? What's the story?
