They should put Sudoko on it.

Apple iPhone: a threat to portable consoles?

Jan 10th 2007 9:28PM (Joystiq)
I think this will make more sense with the next iPod, if it has the big touch screen the iPhone has. Flash style internet games would be great with a multi-touch screen.

What I would like to see, though, is a controller dock. Just slip the screen into a controller shell. They could even make a fairly large shell with analog thumbsticks, and it because it would be optional, it wouldn't make the device larger for those who don't want complex games.

PixArt to provide object tracking tech for Wii

moogle: good find (the visible IR on the bar)

Excite truck doesn't need recalibration. It is measuring the constant acceleration of gravity.
If the controller isn't moving much, the pitch and roll of the controller can always be calculated accurately.

PixArt to provide object tracking tech for Wii

The PixArt tracking system is similar to an infrared optical mouse. Instead of tracking the texture of any surface, it tracks the IR emitters on the bar.

It is used in any Wii program that uses a cursor.

Link is controlled by the stylus the whole game. Watch how he follows the fairy (your cursor) during the whole GDC video.

Watch out for game thieves

Apr 18th 2006 7:33PM (Joystiq)
A couple of weeks ago, My Gamecube and 12 games were stolen, along with a couple of DS games (I had my DS with me). Also my computer and 24" Dell lcd. And a few bags of chips.

Maybe the dead pixel on my monitor could be used to identify it. If I get an HDTV to watch movies, I think I'll get the biggest, heaviest CRT I can find.

They passed over my Game Gear... with Lemmings in it.

Pictures of DS Download Station innards

"The only issue I have is the inability for multiple people to download at the same time, this isn't really too much of a problem though, unless you have like 10 people waiting"

Including me, there were 3 people downloading games when I was there, I didn't have to wait... maybe none of us tried to download at the same time.2
reasons why this thing is a brilliant idea... It gets you to the store, and it lets other customers in game stores see the DS in use... it increases exposure. If Nintendo is smart, they will release a demo of Zelda DS before it comes out, and get a lot of users playing their DS systems at stores.

I vote for Concerned! I thought it way quite funny on Monday and Wednesday.

Red Steel: first Revolution screens revealed [Update 5]

I'm suprised none of the "Nintendo RS" theorists have commented on the title of this game.

What Sony, Microsoft must do to win in North America

Feb 25th 2006 2:18AM (Joystiq)
"Visuals (graphics) will eventually get to photo-realism, leading to the end of the "graphics war". Audio too, though that depends on one's sound system."

Graphics will always be able to be improved, but it will take bigger and bigger steps in hardware to notice improvements. But we are nearing the point where better graphics won't allow new gameplay. Nintendo knows this, so is trying to innovate in other areas.

Audio is all pre-recorded, so unless it is dynamically simulated, it doesn't have much room to improve.
