I honestly think their "lightside" "darkside" options need to be thought out better... I honestly just had a mission where "Save the Girl" was a Darkside option.... as someone who has been playing a purely lightside character, I was shocked at gaining darkside points for being the hero....
Let me tell you, your friend and I quit at the EXACT same time.... NGE ruined everything.
Now, I'll be honest, I'm playing SWTOR right now, and enjoying the hell out of it... just wish they had SOME sandbox planets like Galaxies did. They did do Tatooine and Hoth right though, both feel expansive and endless.
So, back in the good days of Star Wars Galaxies, I ended up working as a spy. I had initially joined a Rebel Alliance Guild, but within a week, was talked into leaving and seeking out membership with one of their opposing Imperial Guilds. I did so, and quickly increased my character's rank with the Empire, gaining stuff such as an AT-ST support unit, getting to the top of their pilot tiers, and becoming one of the guild's officers. I was allowed in all of the meetings regarding when we would attack Rebel guild bases, and helped design ambush points to take out known rebel players.
I would also notify my Rebel guild leader of all of these plans. Every time it was a major strike, those "dirty rebel scum" would always be prepared, and it'd end up being a massacre. I was with "The Sons of Thrawn" for five months before I made a mistake. Just out of the meeting, and I've been chatting through tells with the imperial guild leader about trying to get that damn spy, WHOEVER he was.... and I accidentally mistyped the name of my Rebel guild leader. Back then in SWG, if you mistype a name and that name doesn't exist, it sends the tell to whoever you last sent a tell to. Being my Imperial guild leader.... a warning about the upcoming raid and where I advised to station our guys for an assault.
His response was golden, and I promptly left the guild, and ran to my true Rebel Guild, immediately changing factions (losing EVERYTHING I had earned in the process) and ended up with an honor guard for two months of Rebel players protecting me from Imperial Players regularly trying to kill me.
When people say that SWG wasn't fun, they don't understand that SWG was about player driven experience...
"Ok, that was good, but next time we need to go for the gold, give it our best, and whatever other stuff college coaches say in movies to inspire their teams to victory...."
I played in the Closed Beta, which ended on the night of the 9th. The controls were a little sloppy at times, and the Rock Paper Scissors system was more annoying than anything else.
You are correct about how fun it was to collect. The amount of MS to pick from was amazing, and I rapidly found myself "gambling" at the same gashapon machines for long periods of time trying to get a specific MS. There were some odd choices which made me laugh as well, such as the Nether Gundam from G Gundam.
Over all it was enjoyable, but I'll only play if it's free to play, and hopefully my suits of choice will not require real money to get.
@carbonize Exactly what I was gonna say. That was my introduction to the series, and it was absolutely amazing. So sad none of my modern day computers can run it....
