I'm all for a good Sony bash, but this is pretty ridiculous. I mean, you're reeeeeeeaaaalllllllyyyyy stretching

Dark Sector trailer makes heads roll

Mar 3rd 2007 4:15PM (Joystiq Playstation)
the first trailer they released for this game (back around E3 '05) had me really excited. a weird, sci-fi game with some unique gameplay.

now it looks like they turned it into a clone of resident evil 4. except slower.

don't get me wrong, the animation and the graphics in general look pretty sweet, but that trailer didn't show me anything gameplay-wise that would make me want to play it

PS3 will eventually upscale your awful DVDs

this isn't exactly on topic, but can anyone tell me why Sony is making Crank available for download in HD on Xbox Live Marketplace? That's one of their big movies on Blu-ray right now, doesn't it seem rather counter-intuitive that they'd be supporting Microsoft's download service?

Psaakyrn says:
"No, the biggest insanity happened during the Wii naming announcement. There's almost nothing in the gaming scene that can ever beat that. :p"

you mean when everyone on the internet with the mentality of a 5-year-old was making pee jokes?

GTA:IV trailer coming on March 29th

Honestly I think it will be set in Liberty City, though you'll probably be able to venture out to other nearby cities a la San Andreas

So far all of the 'numbered' GTAs have been set in Liberty City, and I can't see them shaking this trend

Bungie preps invited players with Halo 3 beta FAQ

@15
my brother. he's a writer for a major game mag and he got to play it back in the fall. now, I should note that when he played, the function of the X button was disabled, and Bungie was being coy about it, so they never said what the actual 'secret function' is for the X button. But my brother thinks it's to activate inventory items, which is the best theory I've heard so far (since it's the only one I've heard that would actually enhance gameplay in a significant way). So I'm deferring to his opinion here.

he also said that Bungie showed them exactly 30 seconds of action from the campaign that showed an epic battle. He said that there was so much going on on-screen that you couldn't even take it all in. so of course, the Bungie guys refused to re-run it (they were only there for a story on the multi-player)

@21
You're definitely right about the video recording. I think they want to show as much love for the machinima crowd as possible, not just for the free advertising but also out of genuine artistic appreciation.

You're also right about the shoulder buttons, each one reloads one gun (and I'm assuming they also act as context-sensitive 'action buttons' like the X used to be)

the X button will be used to activate items in your inventory

yes, you have an inventory and items you can pick up in Halo 3 (like that shield thingy from the commercial)

One universal console to rule them all

Feb 16th 2007 3:37PM (Joystiq)
yeah, they already tried that. as JodyAnthony already pointed out, this is the concept the 3D0 was based on and that system failed (there were plenty of other contributing reasons, but I think having 3 separate manufacturers making the same system breaks up your market even worse than having 'Core' and 'Premium' versions)

Global launch for Forza 2 (excludes Japan?)
