@Anticrawl Because then what happens if the game they make isn't the game people paid for. I know that sounds unlikely knowing Double Fine, but the fact that a ton of people have already paid for a product that hasn't been made yet makes it possible that some people will probably not be happy with what gets made with the money they gave in to the project.

I also enjoyed the fact that the lead writer for Mass Effect also wrote the books, it felt like a more genuine piece of fiction than just some random guy doing it...
