Twisted Pixel helping with Turbine-developed console MMO [update]

Jun 27th 2010 9:22PM (Joystiq)
That is not a great way to keep on getting work. I don't think Turbine's console project was suppose to be public at this point.

Report: Zynga planning to ditch Facebook, start 'Zynga Live' service

May 7th 2010 7:12PM (Joystiq)
That would be one of the stupidest business moves of all time. They aren't public yet are they? Because if they are, and this is real, you should start shorting them immediately.

Analyst: iPhone has Apple taking a bite out of DS, PSP software sales

Mar 23rd 2010 4:29PM (Joystiq)
Argh! This is a really bad chart. You're assuming that the iphone is eating the revenue of the DS and PSP when there is no information about what the total revenue is for either year. It is completely possible that the iphone is simply growing the pie.

But I guess that's not controversial enough.

Overheard@DICE: How do you define indie?

Feb 18th 2010 11:10PM (Joystiq)
It's actually really hard to define. I like to think the best formal definition would be something along the lines of everyone who works on the game is being paid a share of the revenue. So basically, if anyone gets a salary but doesn't "own" the game, you aren't indie. Someone might try to break my definition by mentioning profit sharing at even big companies like EA, but I think you guys understand what I mean.

Net neutrality: John McCain says no, Glenn Beck sees a Marxist plot

Nov 2nd 2009 3:19PM (Daily Finance)
This is just so sad how many people are uninformed and are being manipulated by the big internet providers. The second post on here summed this up best. This is not about bandwidth being used, if an ISP when to charge $1 for 10MB/Month and another wants to charge $5 for 10 MB/Month, that is completely their right. What net neutrality means is that they cant charge $5 for content they don't like and $1 for content they do like. It really is as simple as that.

Conservatives like to talk about how few media outlets they have. How would you like it if Comcast could block Michelle Malkin because they don't like her views. That's what this is really about.

You should be standing with us, instead of being tricked into fighting on the wrong side because you currently hate who is in the white house. We've been working on Net Neutrality long before Obama was elected.

Some creators disappointed with XNA Community Games sales

Mar 30th 2009 4:04PM (Joystiq)
I think the problem is that the few games that are polished on the community games are very derivative. Biology battle is a great example. It is very polished, but it is one of the dozen dual stick shooters. If you want a game that gets noticed and gets sales it needs to be both polished and somehow innovative. There is a lot of competition for people's gaming money right now, making a clone of some other game isn't going to get many sales.
