Hmm, last night I went to GameStop, to pick up a game, and jokingly asked the sales guy how many times he'd been asked "Do you have a PS3 or a Wii in stock?" that day. He said that he's been asked that of the Wii far more, and that they actually had some PS3 units currently in stock. He then tried to get me to buy it, but I laughed and said no way.
For the past few weeks, the only reason to buy one was to re-sell it on eBay. But now that eBay sales have come crashing down, there's just no need, especially since most of the launch games aren't worth it.
Hmm, I probably should have pointed this out in my original comment, but I am Asian. It IS a stereotype that all asians look alike, but I'll have to admit that there is some truth to it. We happen to share lots of common elements (dark hair color, certain facial structures, etc.). Now, there are lots of other things that distinguish ourselves from each other, but I don't see much of that in the Wii mock-ups.
I guess my point is that the Wii needs more customization options. Happy now?
In Japan, if most folks try to make a Wii that looks like themselves, you're going to end up with a lot of Mii avatars that look the same. It'll be better in the US, where the population is more diverse, but still, a lot of avatars are going to look alike. Nintendo better roll out more customization elements soon (different clothing, accessories, etc.). Different models would be great too. (Who says your avatar has to be HUMAN?)
PS3 sales no longer hotcake-like?
