PAX 2008: Appealing to an MMO Newbie

Sep 5th 2008 12:16AM (Joystiq)
As an MMO newb myself, I have been holding out for an MMO that offers all of these things:

1. Rewarding action gameplay instead of just tedious "point and click grinding".

2. Viable solo play throughout the entire game WITH the possibility of attaining the best loot in the game.

3. To be able to create my own party of custom characters. Managing one character's skills/stats/equipment is fun. But I don't like the idea of being restricted to just one class. I'd like to create my own tank, damage dealer, healer, and buffer and have them all travel together. It's more fun when I can have manage 4 characters at once.

If anybody knows a game like this let me know. I'm eager to find one.

I hope this means we won't have to wait 4-8 months between the Japanese and American releases of Final Fantasy games.

DICE: Battlefield Heroes 'already out', closed beta to expand

Aug 24th 2008 4:07PM (Joystiq)
I just lost a lot of interest in this game. Sorry, but I don't like the idea of entering an online shooter game for the first time against beta players who have honed their skill for the past 6 months memorizing each map, camping spawn points, and finding which guns are broken in balance.

Isn't this the kind of stuff DICE said they were trying to prevent when they said, "You won't get shot in the head repeatedly by a 15 year old who plays the game 8 hours everyday!" Well, what do they think is going to happen when the game goes public and Joe Gamer gets matched against hardcore beta players who already mastered the game 6 months ago?

The Political Game: E3 is dead

Jul 19th 2008 11:15AM (Joystiq)
Oh, BS. I distinctly remember almost every game journalist and editor PRAISING the killing of E3 in 2007 when it was downsized. Back then you all loved it because you didn't have to share demo lines and swag with gamers anymore.

So all you industry "insiders" should eat your own words and stop whining.

Behold: New Too Human previews hit

CoD4 had an extensive and deep multiplayer to add longevity, and to many the multiplayer was the game with the single player being a bonus. Same with Gears but to a lesser extent.

The Half-Life episodes and Portal were shorter than a full game but also sell individually for far cheaper than full game's $60 price tag.

10 hours times 6 classes is 60 hours. Okay, that's a reach but I'm just trying to stay positive. They said this game was a part of trilogy. Someone needs to send Dyack the memo that a trilogy isn't just one game cut into thirds. Maybe Too Human 2 will be longer when it comes out in 2018.

Battlefield: Bad Company coming June 23

Why do all of the big games always release towards the end of the month?

What do you want to see at GDC?

I wanna see a catapult launch a hobo over a whale. But that wouldn't be appropriate so they says. Wells, I says that's crazy talk!

Joyswag: Win this $5K dollar gaming rig from Falcon Northwest

We'll keep your pants on boys, because you're about to be amazed. I've got hot rod sporting 512MB of RAM with sky high latency. Because I only buy the best, I've got a single-core 2.0 Pentium processor, which is 64-bit enabled like a pro. An obscene 128MB of VRAM elegantly manufactured as part of the motherboard for the hardcore enthusiasts, such as myself. And the cherry-on-top is that I still use a mouse with the ball sensor, because I'm old school.

Now who needs a smoke?

I suspect the guy loves Nintendo more than he loves Blizzard.
