Microsoft over priced Xbox live at the beginning of it.
For example
Xbox live 2002 - 2005 at $50 a year - letters ingame invites - DLC support - 16 players lobby text chat - no party chat - no private chat - microsoft games had less ingame lag then others - Xbox live arcade started around 2003 ( trying to remember)
PSN 2006- now
- letters ingame invites - DLC support - 16 players lobby text chat - no party chat - no private chat - Sony games had less ingame lag then others
Why charge?
Xbox one Microsoft knew the only thing that Sony didn't had was a online base for gamers. Microsoft also it wouldn't survive off Halo alone, and not too many game developers wasnt going to start a new development 2rd launched. So microsoft needed more money coming it so you have Xbox live and money
Multiplayers gaming is the top trend for now, just like single player (story mode) was in the past. But in the future it will go back to the story mode being the most popular for more gamers
Wrong info....Activision is not charging for online play with MW3. It's just a stats tracker like EA Battlelog and Bungie Halo stats tracking and Killzone command center. Activision is charging $15 for that feature across platforms. Battlefield 3 Battlelog is free stats tracker for everyone.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to have cross-play for PS3, PC, Mac and not Xbox
