The Political Game: It's the Economy, Stupid

Nov 17th 2006 6:16PM (Joystiq)
@ 19.

there are 3 parts to the competition: being in the top ten gets you $50000, and it gets you mentors to help make pitches to investors to come up with more. in the second round you need to secure $50000 in order to get the full $250000 (they give you 5 dollars for every dollar your raise). i think they do the same for the $500000 prize too... it may sound crappy to have to get all this money on your own in order to get some for free, but it's something, if you wanna be a real company, that you're gonna have to get comfortable anyway.

i attended the meeting in toronto yesterday, and me and my team are going to apply and see if we can get into the top 10.

Columbine game scapegoated for Montreal shootings

Sep 15th 2006 9:05AM (Joystiq)
i read the toronto star yesterday after seeing that headline from the sun... the article talks about how he was a member of some vampire club, loved death metal, just generally hated people, loved guns, etc. etc. etc. and somewhere nestled in there it mentioned that he played that game.

are people actually that braindead that they can blissfully gloss over the vampire club, the gun obsession, and the hating people part and just move swiftly over to the games and say that's what caused the whole thing? i really hope this was nothing more then a sensationalist headline and that people are smart enough to see past it. i mean the kid had real life, physical, kill people friggin guns, and he had a video game... which do you find to be more dangerous?

CEA thinking about an E3 replacement

Aug 10th 2006 10:27PM (Joystiq)
i don't really know why everyone's trying to be 'the next e3'. the whole reason e3 is gone is because the publishers thought it was a waste of time and money. i very much doubt that the major publishers are gonna get behind another trade show that's doing it's best e3 impression...

i do, however, think that there should be more focus on creating a trade show to foster the independant developers. like a cheap, no frills way for people to get their ideas out. it'd be a real shame if they lost their voice in all this.

Team Fortress 2 is so 'incredibles'

Jul 19th 2006 2:40PM (Joystiq)
holy crap! i didn't even like the original team fortress but i'm totally psyched for this version. the new art direction totally complements the kind of gameplay that game offers (from what i played of it anyway). gg valve, gg.

Team Fortress 2 artwork revealed

i really like it. very slick, very stylish. too bad that there are gonna be all kinds of people that think that not photorealistic graphics = bad game.

#9 is a good example of that. how is valve spitting on fans by trying a new style? if it's still a fun game why should we care?

Overheard: polite clapping for Nintendo is quite enough, fanboys

vlad, i agree with you. although i don't know that game journalism will get to pulitzer-type material anytime soon, for now it is at least important to try and stay impartial.

to everyone that disagrees, what if the wii isn't all that great in the end? what if a good chunk of journalists at e3 let fanboyism get the better of them and reported back that it was awesome just because they really wanted it to be? the journalist at that point has become biased, and people will read his/her article, decide to buy a wii and then find out that they're not all that impressed with it.

i don't mean to bash the wii, but it's not like the same example would work with ps3, since it seems that no one was really enthusiastic about anything they had to say.

Wii trademark surfaces, naysayers wiip

unique how? the logo looks alot like the one for the ipod. it's an awkward name that sounds weird to say, and just because, from an advertising standpoint, revolution was apparently a bad name, doesn't make this one good. i'd have rather told people that i had a ps3 or a revolution or a xbox 360 than a wii.

Hidden boobies incite Oblivion rating change [update 1]

1. modder finds texture files in games program folder
2. modder opens photoshop
3. modder changes the textures on the female characters to be bare chested
4. modder releases mod
5. Bethesda gets in shit

seriously, where is the logic in this? this isn't content that was included in the game that was "unlocked", this is just some texture files that were fucked around with by some modder. i'm with #17 on this one, i'd love to see someone do a topless mod for barbie horse adventure, or better yet, composite some boobs overtop of like tinkerbell in peter pan and see if everyone freaks out the same way they do over games, saying that the content was always there, and was just "unlocked" for the world to see.

Dell pretends to understand gamers

i have an xps gen 4, an older dimension, and an inspiron laptop. i've learned 2 things from these pc's: 1. format the computer the second you get it and have a fresh install without all the crap, and 2. never, EVER call tech support unless you can't physically start your computer, and if you can't, prepare to spend at least 4 hours on hold. no joke... i timed it once.
