Star Wars Galaxies says goodbye as Star Wars: The Old Republic launches

Dec 16th 2011 6:30PM (Joystiq)
@TheDarkWayne
I play some Warcraft and really, I spend all the time just thinking about some of the great stuff from Star Wars Galaxies. It's sad how many immerse gameplay elements have been lost in online role-playing games, I need not say how basic Warcraft is, many more are similar. There's no more common appearances of things like player housing and the astoundingly expansive crafting system in Star Wars Galaxies, and don't get me started with space, there was so much you could do just messing around up in the stars. The Old Republic, for example, looks fantastic, but gameplay wise, they just do not compare at all. I had always hoped for SWG 2, but that's never going to happen.

Star Wars Galaxies says goodbye as Star Wars: The Old Republic launches

To those of us who played the game, this is a very sad moment. Like many others, I enjoyed this game prior to the core changes that submitted it to inevitable failure, and in its prime, I cannot think of a game that would best it even today, so many years later. I had some really good times and I don't think I go a day without thinking of some of the great people I met and fun moments I had. I played on the Scylla server and was recruited into a great guild called "Legions of Emperia" so if any of you old friends see this, it's Roguetoad27 here!

Codemasters takes down GRID PS3 and PC servers

Jun 19th 2011 6:33PM (Joystiq)
I'm not making this comment to counter others, forgive me if it sounds as such, but as recently as a week ago, I was playing GRID online on the PC with still many other players online, at least a couple hundred. I am not sure why Codemasters and/or those that don't play it, are under the belief that it was okay to just shut it down.

Matsuura's WINtA and OneBigGame support Save the Children Japan

@eat it

I'm very appreciative of all the donations and support that Japan is receiving and I wish the best for them. They are amazingly unique and respectable people.

On the note of possible refugees, I would gladly take them all. Yes please.

Crysis 2 can run on a $600 PC

Mar 17th 2011 11:47PM (Joystiq)
Seriously, I think I am just going to describe my PC setup on my site sometime because my PC is just under a year old, built out of maybe 600 bucks total worth of new components, and it has run everything, and I mean everything maxed out with very good framerate, including the Crysis 2 demo. People will dish out some crazy amounts of cash just because they don't research and use their heads first. It's about buying smart, not big.

Valve shares some insight into Dota 2's development

@sdhjktylyu I'm sure you were trying to do something cool there, except it's not formatted correctly on my display so it looks like someone nuked a house and the windows are being torn off.

Rumor: 3DS to launch in Japan with around 10 games

Jan 7th 2011 7:33PM (Joystiq)
Don't get scared away by the game prices, they're more expensive in Japan so it won't be similar here. When I import PSP games from Play-Asia, they float around $60 which would get someone punched if that were the case in the states.

Video games growing local Japanese tourism (thanks, Monster Hunter!)

Jan 7th 2011 12:45PM (Joystiq)
@eat it Weird or not, it's pretty clever. Imagine making realistic gaming goods or even in game content available through a plan like this. You could sell products that either relate to a game or maybe contain vouchers for in game content and distribute them to towns which would benefit from visitors. I know Japan truly is not a small nation but compared to the US, such an idea is interesting.

Physicists rebuilding early video game from scratch

Dec 18th 2010 6:15PM (Joystiq)
How coincidental, I just made a speech about video games a few weeks ago and I spoke of both Tennis for Two and a 1957 patent for what may have been the first game ever. It's nice to see reconstruction here. Pardon the off-topic remark but since I am likely out of here until the new year, happy holidays to everyone and safe travels!

Microsoft: Xbox Live Gold subscribers use service 3 hours per day

I really don't think it matters, it's the point I am trying to make, not how I say it. You would think that with the way that the internet has gone, at least a few correct forms would be appreciated. I guess that's still not satisfactory.
