@Vesuvium Ok, so I realize people are always going to say "Oh, why do they choose this game and not this?" I'm all for showing off the different eras in gaming, but the way the choices are formatted is ridiculous. Each system has three games in four genres, and you can only choose one per genre.
So what ends up happening is you have the same amount of games up for nominations for the Commodore 64 as the NES. And instead of being able to vote for Chrono Trigger, A Link to the Past, and Earthbound, you can only choose one of the three because they're all Adventure games on the SNES. Yet there are three games to choose from among Combat/Strategy games for the ColecoVision.
And regardless, if they wanted to do a showcase on the "art of video games" they shouldn't be separating games into clear cut genres, but rather showcasing the games that don't fit clearly within a typical category. And even if a game DOES fit into a clear cut category, if it's not one of the four provided, it won't get nominated. I guess that's why I didn't see any sport games except for Tony Hawk's Underground 2(and really, that's the Tony Hawk game they're going to go with instead of one of the originals?).
I think Zuckerberg deserves this award, it just should've been before now. I know The Social Network came out this year, and he donated $100 million to Newark schools, but this isn't exactly the year Facebook got big. It would've made more sense if he got it 3-4 years ago. Once again, the published media shows how late they are in acknowledging the role of a website. This is like Scorcese getting the award for The Departed. Sure he deserves it, but why'd it take you so long?
@Nintari Cigarettes and alcohol are drugs. Pornography laws are a joke anyway since any kid can go to a porn site.
But there are no laws banning the sale of books, TV shows, movies, or any other form of media to the youth in America. This is an incredible double standard leveled only against the video game industry. Schwarzenegger didn't seem to mind having kids seeing his violent movies and making him into a millionaire.
There is no law forcing people to be 17 or with a guardian in order to see an R rated movie. It's a system the MPAA has established and nearly every movie theater abides by it. The same can be said of the ESRB and video game retailers. But once you make it into a law you get into very tricky first amendment issues over what the government can censor.
@Mcmax3000 Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa are all KIND OF close to Boston. I mean, I wouldn't call it a short drive, but it's close enough that if I lived in one of those Canadian cities I wouldn't bother flying to go to PAX. I went to PAX East and the five hour drive was fine(I live in New Jersey). I think they want to make it in a place that's far away from other conventions.
Everyone knows that April showers bring May flowers, but let us not forget that Mayflowers bring Pilgrims, which bring diseases like scurvy, which brings death.
