Games a big part of Sony profit woes

Oct 19th 2006 12:41PM (Joystiq)
**YOU GUYS ARE MISSING THE POINT**

Everyone *knew* that SONY was going to initially lose money on the PS3. They had those losses estimated ahead of time and adjusted their profit projection accordingly (based on what they *planned* to lose).

Now they're telling their investors, "Oh, boy. Were we waaayyyy off. The *real* projected loss on the PS3 is about double that figure. And we're only going to make less than half of our previously forecasted profit as a company." That’s the *real* problem.

63% off on their total prediction?? That's ridiculous. This is very bad news for SONY. They lied to their investors in their previous forecast.

This just shows how full of themselves and out of touch with reality the SONY Executives are. Where did they initially think all of that profit was going to come from?

They were *clearly* calling Lucas' video amateurish (and they were being sarcastic). Reading comprehension can be a *good* thing.

Obscure researcher finds PS3 price acceptance from small online sample

This is meaningless. Future US and SONY have had their hands in each other's pockets for years now. They probably sent email questionaires to the mailing list for PSM magazine (the SONY PS2 magazine that Future US publishes).

Universal remotist finds fault with PS3, console lacks IR port

People, tell me you are smarter than this...

All SONY did with this decision is doom the sales of the BD remote. If it will only control the PS3 and you have your PS3 wireless gamepad right there anyway, *don't* buy the remote. Big mistake on SONY's part if they were planning on selling any of these remotes.

New Wii marketing videos display smiles and bland living rooms

Oct 11th 2006 1:11PM (Joystiq)
Would you anti-Nintendo fanboys give it a rest. Those people were *clearly* not actors *or* models. I'm sure Nintendo could have instructed them to "look like you're having a good time," but all of those initial reactions were genuine. It's obvious.

Do these videos mean that the Wii will *appeal* to their peers? Probably not. They did it to be on TV.

Also, this was Wii Sports. It's meant to be an *incredibly* easy introduction to the controller and its methods of motion detection. The *real* Wii games I have played so far did not require nearly as much motion (Zelda, Metroid, Red Steel, Mario Galaxy). So don't worry about your living room being too cluttered.

Stop the hate. All three consoles are going to be fun in their own way. If you're a *true* hardcore gamer, you will end up owning all three.

PS3 preorders up on eBay, down from eBay (or: IT BEGINS!)

The $1,000,000 PS3 is still up.

PS3 pre-order procession (East coast edition)

Oct 10th 2006 6:07PM (Joystiq)
Some jackass listed a PS3 on eBay for a million dollars "Buy it Now." One guy has it up for $8,000 and another fool at $10,000.

I don't know how they can do that when two other *auctions* are starting at $0.99 and a few "Buy it Now" listings are for $1500.

If someone really has a $1,000,000 laying around and wants a PS3 badly, I'm sure they could bribe an EB employee into parting with his PS3 for just $5,000.

Some people.

Will it be cheaper than a riding lawnmower would be about the same question. What does it matter if it's cheaper than a PSP?

Japanese hardware sales, 25 September - 1 October: fully translated edition

@ Bill

As much as it pains me to give you the attention you crave, I do have to correct you on one point:

The handheld race will not be a ten year race.
When sales start to slump, both companies will release new versions. It's the way the handheld market works.

One more thing: There *is* no competition in the handheld market. Nintendo will *always* own the majority market share.

SONY *has* succeeded, though, by managing to take a noticeable chunk of that market. Their fans should be happy with that achievement. They *shouldn't*, however, fool themselves into thinking SONY could ever take over the market.
