What's with the 4 legs sticking out at the corners?

Connect360 patches video problems

May 22nd 2007 7:55PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I have a first generation Mac Mini, and I'm having much greater success with Connect 360 v3.1 than I did with v3.0. I'm running a wired 10/100 ethernet connection through a Linksys router from the Mac Mini to the Xbox 360, and I have no problems at all viewing H.264 encoded videos at full DVD resolution encoded at 700 kpbs. I used HandBrake for the encoding. The combination of the Mac Mini, Connect360, and HandBrake works beautifully. I only wish it were that simple to get high quality videos encoded and served through Windows.

Gears is unreadable and we want answers!

Yeah, I've had the disc read errors with GOW. And unfortunately, several days later I ended up with the red ring of death. I'm not sure if it's GOW related, since around the same time I connected the HD-DVD player to it. Luckily Micro$oft was "sympathetic" and they gave me a 25% discount off the $140 repair fee. Yippee!!!

New data transfer solution: Datel Xport 360

Oct 30th 2006 7:42PM (Joystiq Xbox)
The 2 USB connectors have nothing to do with power. One USB cord is for the harddrive connection, the other is for the memory card connection. They are completely independent of each other, so you can get by using just one connector at a time if you're short on USB ports.

I bought this about 2 weeks ago at Best Buy, and it seems to suit my needs. I was able to transfer my original Xbox gamesaves to it using Xbox Gamesaves Manager and Xplorer360.

Datel Xport vs. XSATA?

Oct 29th 2006 9:50PM (Joystiq Xbox)
I picked up the Xport at Best Buy two weekends ago. It's different from the XSATA in that you don't need to have the harddrive connected to the 360 in order to use it. It works like an independent docking station for your 360 harddrive and memory cards, and connects to your PC using USB 2.0.

I bought it with the primary goal of transferring my old Xbox gamesaves to the 360 harddrive, and I was successfully able to do that using Xplorer 360 and Xbox Saves Manager. It helps if your old Xbox is hacked so you can transfer the gamesaves via FTP.

Now if I could just figure out how to put my own videos on the 360 harddrive so that I could view them on the 360. (Anyone?)

Need for Speed Carbon demo vrooms onto XBLM

Oct 4th 2006 11:08PM (Joystiq Xbox)
Why haven't I seen a single mention of Test Drive Unlimited on this site yet? Yeah, it had a crappy demo, and I had to be convinced by a friend just to buy it, but since I've started playing it I can't play anything else. I've already racked up over 30 hours of playing time on that game alone, which is probably 3x what I spent on EA's last NFS title. If Carbon is anything like Most Wanted, then I'll probably just stick with TDU.
